Hot Sake - Food News You Can Use

2006_03_food_Hot Sake2.jpg- Old business first, somehow this got missed last week. Mrs. Leuzzi over on Snack wonders about bathrooms at the SS now that it is Shacktoberfest. She recommends fast food establishments on the block and even provides a map. We always thought it was rude that they did not offer even hand sanitizer to customers in light of the missing facilities.

This week, we hit the mailbox….not ours but others for seriously good entertainment.

- Over at Slice they get an inbound from DJ Bubbles, an unknown alum of Seltzerboy’s SU who virtually demands they post his Top 10 list of pizza joints in Manhattan & Brooklyn and wants to know why these has been no response about his previously furnished Syracuse Pizza Manifesto. It really gets fun when he tangles with Josh Ozersky in the comments. Go join in if you have your own pizza opinions.

- Sliding over to Josh’s full time gig at Grub Street we check in on a potpourri of inbox items including a plug for the excellent Greenmarket meat purveyors Violet Hill Farm and a staunch defense of David Burke helmed Hawaiian Tropic Zone.

- Final stop of the day is over at ever inside Eater where they have procured (by which we mean opened an inbound email - they are goooood) a letter that offers insight as to what all your yet-to-open, potentially new favorite bars and restaurants are up against. We do not wish to be in the shoes of this CB3 applicant, the new Blind Tiger, or any other place that is on the horizon.

Today is the last day to grab the Village Voice and peruse the Best Of choices. Naturally main interest in these parts is the food section. Mr. Sietsema does such a great job uncovering a wide swath of places, in the 5 boros and even NJ, here are some places worthy of having their glory re-highlighting.

- Adrienne's – worth the trek to the bottom of Manhattan, sausage pie is especially great.
- Ali Baba – longstanding best thing about Murray Hill.
- Loreley – superior food to their competition at Zum. Sylvester may have those excellent Greenmarket pretzels, but here they bake them fresh.
- Maremma – not sure about the dish they praise, but we like Cesare Casella's whole esthetic. The guy has ranchers raising his breeds of animals and farmers growing seeds he smuggles from Italy.
- Blaue Gans – Jason’s food was praised not too long ago right in this space.
