Bronx Murder Suicide Near Van Cortlandt Park

2006_10_bwcrimescene.jpgPolice believe the three dead bodies, including one of a 4 yead old boy, found in the parking lot of the Van Cortlandt Park golf course were the result of a murder-suicide. Thirty one year old Aldrick Jarvis shot his son Jacob Cartier Jarvis in the face while Jacob was in a carseat in the family car; he shot his 30 year old wife Jessica in the parking lot and then shot himself. Runners and dog walkers heard the gunshots, and police are still talking to them to understand what happened. The NY Times reports that police think the Jarvises had a fight, leading Aldrick Jarvis to smash a window, and then use a 9mm gun on them. Another sad note: Invitations to Jacob's 5th birthday were found in the car.

Jessica Jarvis's sister Gina Guadalupe told reporters that the couple had been together for many years, but recently Jessica had "threatened to leave him...She was very loving and caring. He was very aggressive and vindictive." According to the Daily News, Aldrick Jarvis couldn't hold down a job while Jessica worked steadily as a nurse's assistant.

A person who lives near the golf course told NY1, "The thing that's shocking to me is that they shot the kid. They shot the kid in the face."

i'd like to take a moment to pray for them before some ASSHOLE on this site posts something cruel- what a tragedy

so true.
This is the second unemployed person to commit a violent act. And, they say the economy is at it's highest since whenever. Yeah, only for the rich.
Don't worry, you'll all get yours. When you got nothing to lose, you got nothing to lose.
thank you very much.

uhm, not-for-nothing but we all have problems...i think this runs deeper than finances

true but did you know the Dow hit a new high on Friday?
whatever, thank you very much.

Why can't these guys ever shoot themselves FIRST?

That poor kid, that poor woman. Pray for them.

What's up with guys who flip out when their wives or girlfriends say they're leaving them?

I've just been reading Steven Pinker, who has a somewhat far-out, evolutionary theory of why men act possessive. (IRRC, it's because they need women to have *their* babies, and not other peoples'. So possessive traits get naturally selected, and the non-possessive men are evolutionary losers.) Not that that makes this OK or anything.

what a tragedy. family and financial stress are one thing, but blasting your five year old in the face with a nine is truly depraved.

In response to pop evolutionary theory above: you would think that jealously murdering your on offspring would be selected out, tho. Wouldn't ordinary filandering spread your genetic material more effectively? (or maybe I'm just rationalizing a boys-will-be-boys mentality...).

before the grammer nazis comeafter me: not "on" but "own" offspring...

I knew and admired the mother and wife that was killed. she was a unique mixture of determination, conscience, loving-kindness, and she was brilliant. She was a gifted healer in medicine, a dynamic teacher in the classroom, and a wonderful mother. it hurts so much i don't know how to cry. this woman was the best of the best at everything she did and had so much ahead of her in life to offer to this world. new york city and boyond suffered a great loss because this woman lived to help poor people recieve medical care who no one else wants to care for. she wasn't a nurses assistant- she was a physician assistant; nurses assisted her. this world lost a unique and wonderful human being, but heaven gained an angel for eterninty. Jessica you are loved and deeply missed.

"What's up with guys who flip out when their wives or girlfriends say they're leaving them?"

I'm sure I'll get flamed with a bunch of one-off incidents where wives/girlfriends killed their husbands/boyfriends, but this shit is almost always perpetrated by dudes. It is sad and sickening.

I knew her too...and she was very kind. She was a woman of determination. There was nothing but love in her heart for others. I am still in shock and cannot believe how someone could be so selfish to try end someone elses hopes and dreams. Nonetheless, God forsaw it all...and with the few moments she had to live this life she made a significant impact to many lives across this community.

I did not know jessica personally but always heard about her through my husband who worked with jessica's mom fot the past 22 years.I met jessica while she worked at columbia and was going to school to become a P.A, she drew my lil boy's blood and was the most kindest, gentlest person I had ever met, not to mention she calmed my son down!. I knew she was a beautiful and determined woman with so much ambition. This is such a tradedy and our hearts are so full of pain.
