We love this story: A pair of cops went "undercover" as gay men and snuggled in Union Square - and ended up arresting a gay-basher. The incident occured Monday afternoon, which seems odd as there are so many people around, but we suppose the truly stupid are everyone all the time. The Post has the details:
The cops, a sergeant and a police officer assigned to the Transit Borough Manhattan Task Force, were perched on a bench like lovebirds, with the sergeant's arm wrapped around his subordinate's shoulder, authorities said. It's riveting how dumb people are. Anyway, the police were stationed there to "curb park violence from gangs and students from nearby Washington Irving HS as well as crime at the Union Square subway station." Eep.[Tyrone] George approached them, screamed that he hated "homos," told them to get out of his park, called them "faggots" and gave the sergeant the middle finger, according to a Criminal Court complaint.
Minutes later, George circled back and continued his anti-gay rant, threatened to assault them and spat on the sergeant's foot, authorities said.
With that, the cops arrested George, who struggled and said he didn't want "faggots touching him," court papers state.

This completely reminds me of "A Confederacy of Dunces."
"with the sergeant's arm wrapped around his subordinate's shoulder"
Do you think there was more than undercover work going on?
Anywho, glad they got the guy.
Cheers for queers!
i'm all for rounding up the queer bashers (being a homo myself), but isn't what they did technically entrapment?
...and i read the rest of the article and it's not entrapment. so, yeah.
[Tyrone] George will get his fair share of "prison [your my] bitchery" soon enough, if not already.
I'm glad the cops in this city are open minded enough to protect all of its citizens. God knows gay people don't enjoy such protection in a lot of places in this world. Gotta love progressive policies.
The cops'd need to do a hell of a lot more than just sit there pretending to be gay for their conduct to constitute entrapment.
My very limited knowledge of the law suggests Samantha T is right. If it were entrapment, the police would have needed to approach George and somehow solicited his bigoted behavior, no?
Anyway, good on the NYPD!
Now THIS is an awesome story. Good for the NYPD.
I have to wonder how the NYPD decides who gets picked for this assignment. But I guess that it could be worse if they had to pose as a streetwalkers with high heels and miniskirts.
Tyrone George [age *20*] could be a freshman student at Washington Irving HS. (Well, he's not too bright.) Some of those students are trouble-makers around Union Square.
"the truly stupid are everyone all the time"
Well said. Well said.
I'm the Sergeant mentioned in the article and I just wanted to share something with everyone.
When I put my arm around my partner in order to convincingly seem gay, I looked deep into his eyes and realized THIS IS THE MAN I WANNA MARRY!. His tenderness, love and caring suddenly came thru so intensely I French-kissed him right there and then.
He too confessed that seeing my hairy, sweaty backhairs in the precint locker room also turned him on and he kissed me right back!.
In fact, if that asshole who we arrested hadn't shown up to interrupt us, we probably wouldn't gotten a room in order to butt_f*ck each other til the end of our shift.
I felt like scratching his freakin' eyes out I was so angry.
For all the sh*t I and others give the NYPD, I have to say that stuff like this is FAR more impressive and useful, than, say, arresting Critical Mass riders. Keep it up NYPD!
It's so weird how there are so many bigots in a large city that contains all different kinds of people.
