READING: The reclusive "Lemony Snicket" (known to grown-ups and non-believers as Daniel Handler) will be showing up - hopefully in a cloak and mustache disguise! - at Barnes and Noble tonight to celebrate the release of The
End, the aptly-titled final chapter to his best-selling Series of Unfortunate Events. Expect the place to be rammed with excited screaming children, and maybe a suspiciously tattooed foe or two. - Krissa Corbett Cavouras

THEATER: The extraordinary Eric Davis extends the New York Clown Theatre Festival a little longer with a “bouffon” version of The Glass Menagerie. Each night, one lucky audience member is plucked from obscurity to play the role of Gentleman Caller and share the stage with a bunch of clowns. The show’s disclaimer warns, “Tom, Amanda and Laura claim no responsibility for your hurt feelings or offended sentiments. Tennessee Williams is spinning in his grave. Why would anyone do this to an American Masterpiece?" David Koteles of nytheatre.com dubs it “delicious theatrical sacrilege”. - John Del Signore
