Mr. Met Wants a Better Bet Friendly Wager!

2006_10_mrmet.jpgIn anticipation of the National League Division Series showdown between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals, Mayor Bloomberg and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay announced a friendly foodie wager for the game. (Wager because "bets" are verboten in professional sports.) :

If the Mets win, Mayor Slay will send a care package of St. Louis products to Mayor Bloomberg in New York, including two Imo's thin-style pizzas, toasted ravioli from the Pasta House Company, and a gift basket from Bissinger's Chocolate. If the Cardinals win, Mayor Bloomberg will send Italian subs from Leo's Latticini and Mama's of Corona, ice cream from Eddie's Sweet Shop in Forest Hills, a pizza alla vodka and the Smokin' Goodfella pizza from Goodfella's Pizzeria on Staten Island, a case of Brooklyn Lager, and a tub of lemon ice from the Lemon Ice King in Corona.
We're very upset by this wager. Why isn't Mayor Slay sending any of those famous St. Louis ribs? Or Ted Drewe's frozen custard? Clearly, St. Louis thinks they'll lose (they have no pitching aside from Chris Carpenter!) so they are sending the dregs. And don't you think they should send the arch to make things a little more equitable?

Mayor Bloomberg said, "While we are wagering some of New York's finest food, I am betting that Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, David Wright and the rest of the Mets will beat the Cardinals - and the only way that Mayor Slay is going to taste our pizza, ice cream, beer, Italian subs and ices is by coming to New York in person."

Because of last night's game was rained out, it's made things slightly confusing, but know that for tonight, you must have Game 2 ticket (even though it's technically Game 1) while this weekend's Game 2 will accept Game 1 tickets. And the bet between NYC and Boston was so much better in 2004.

it's not the St.Louis think's they're going to lose, there's just no good food in that sorry excuse for a city

Dregs? I beg to differ; I've been ordering from Bissinger's for years, and their handmade chocolates are fantastic. Don't dis what you don't know.

Is there anyway I can get in on this? I miss the toasted ravioli.

Olive Garden has Toasted Ravioli...

i'm w j. go cards! and i could use a concrete right now too.

Ah, how could you guys cheer for the Cards in NY? That's sacrelige!

Well, anyway, hopefully I'm making up for it when I bring a little Mets lovin' to Busch stadium this Saturday. Any ideas for a sign to make?

Hunter: That would be sacrilege, not sacrelige. My idea for your sign is to use a dictionary.

STL is def. no NYC by any means, but they still have some damn good food! Cardinals have more of a chance than you think kids! CY Young winner Carpenter and MVP Pujols!

that bet is so lopsided. Two pizzas, toasted ravioli and chocolate vs. subs, ice cream, lemon ice, pizza and beer. Mayor Slay needs to throw in some frozen custard and fried brain sandwiches to even things up.

mets take game 1. suck it, cards!

Tommy Glavin pitched a hell of a game lastnight, but hey, Jeff Weaver was excellent too...Maybe the Cards switched Weaver brothers without telling anyone...

i think st louis needs to throw in their arch to even things up. and we can maybe throw in a footbridge. that would make things even steven.

Dear Jen,

This does not make sense. "Because of last night's game was rained out".
