Yankees Face Early Exit

2006_10_yankemaul.jpgThis afternoon, the Yankees will face the Detroit Tigers and the possible end of their season. Last night, the Tigers shut out the Yankees 6-0, putting them down 2-1 in the series, and a loss today would have the Yankees cleaning out their lockers. And who knew that Kenny Rogers would pitch a gem for the Tigers? Most people predicted that Rogers would get shelled, given that he pitched for both the Yankees and Mets with disastrous post-season results, but he kept the Yankees sluggers off balance all night long, giving up only five hits in 7 2/3 innings. Randy Johnson gave up five runs in five 2/3 innings.

Joe Torre tried to encourage his team after the loss by telling them to "Wake up!" He also shuffled the lineup - Alex Rodriguez will bat eighth today.

it's amazing that professional sports players receive such bloated salaries...for losing!
