This is ridiculous. Anyone else for empowering youth?

Personally I would like to see a LOT more 18 to enter, 21 to drink events. Some kids just like to dance or meet people of mixed ages, and that should be possible without using a fake ID.

Uh, I'll happily cop to being a transplant, rube, and if not a recovering redneck, at least from more than an hour from NYC. That has very little to do with what I wrote. It had more to do with drivers looking at traffic signs and the likeliehood that those people were coming from out of town. I don't even live in Manhattan, so really don't feel the need to fit in. I do treasure reading comprehension though.

haehat, at least in west chelsea and the meatpacking district during hte weekends, no one is actually from manhattan. take a poll, trust me. even gawker this week reported on this fact (not that they are a trustworthy source, but it is a known fact).

Yeah Tom,
If they can decide to fight/die for their country at 18, they should get to choose to have a few drinks if they want...

Oh, right, we were talking about rich white kids...

"Here's a wacky idea, let's just make the drinking age 18 and stop pretending 21 makes any difference to anyone."

Bless you Tom.

They had to put out a disclaimer in plain view before they start the raids, because there are gonna be a lot of lawyers kids sueing the city when they get popped...

But I like knowing what is a crime and what is not...like when you get a ticket on an empty subway for having your bag on the seat. Who knew?

I agree with Tom and I don't even drink.
If Parents were to teach their kids to be responsible drinkers a lower drinking age would suffice.

Yes, I know, being a responsible parent is a tough thing to do. Maybe you could pick up one of many instructional book on how to raise a child. We all know it's nearly impossible to raise a child without one (God forbid they don't turn out perfect)!

If all else fails, just blame it on the media.

The people in Manhattan who think all underage clubbers are from NJ, LI, or the outer boroughs, are obviously transplants. and are obviously not even from NJ, outer boroughs, etc., (read: rubes, hicks, recovering rednecks). Dont be ashamed of where you're from, just don't try so hard to fit in.

It's a simple fact that there are many, many ,mannny, rich little Manhattanite girls who love to gooo clubbin! Oh yeah. They need fake IDs just as much as anyone else.

In Miami during WMC they use street construction signs to advertise parties at clubs.

I assume the target demo for these signs are underage people driving to or from clubs from NJ or the other boroughs. This would also imply the fact that they're probably driving drunk anyway. I doubt anyone willing to get behind the wheel under the influence and risking killing people is going to give a rat's ass about flashing a fake ID. This must be the mother of all empty gestures by a city.

Apparently there's a problem with underagers thinking that fake IDs are legal, which prompted this sign.

They are probably driving with the fake id. The signs are a dumb idea. Just continue to arrest them or fine them and their parents.

When a person wants to do something "cool" which is illegal, they don't see signs. That is why trouble happens. The focus is on the act.

Yeah, a traffic display sign is really going to stop the use of fake IDs. I give this a D, since it is a waste of resources and may destract drivers.
