Last Night's Action: What's With All The Injured PItchers Around Here?

-Yankees 7 Blue Jays 2: While the news on the field was good, the Yankees got some bad news off of it. Randy Johnson has a herniated disk in his back and took an epidural injection Friday to relieve the pain. As severe as the injury sounds, it does not necessarily mean that Johnson will miss the postseason. He will attempt to throw in the bullpen before one of the games this weekend and New York will make a decision on his status after that.

The win and losses by Detroit and Minnesota clinched homefield advantage throughout the playoffs for the Yankees. Now, they just have to hope Johnson’s back improves quickly.

-Mets 4 Washington 3: It looks like New York has finally emerged from their slump, winning for the second day in a row. John Maine pitched six solid innings; probably earning himself a Game Four start in the NLDS and both Carlos Beltran and Paul LoDuca had two hits and a RBI. The ageless Julio Franco stole his sixth base of the year.

-Rutgers 22 South Florida 20: The Scarlet Knights will hold onto their Top-25 ranking, but just barely. After opening up an 8-point lead, Rutgers had a field goal blocked and watched the Bulls drive for a touchdown and just miss a 2-point conversion. South Florida appeared to recover the onside kick, but replays showed that they had touched the ball before it traveled 10 yards.
