The Intrepid's Last Weekend in Town
It's the last weekend for the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum to be docked in the Hudson River! The aircraft carrier will be towed to Bayonne, NJ, and then Staten Island for renovations that will last at least 18 months. The pier where the Intrepid is docked - Pier 86 at 12th Avenue and 46th Street - will also be repaired. Here are events for its last weekend:
Saturday,September 30th - 10am-9pm - Last ticket sold at 7:30pm - Fireworks at 8pmThe NY Times has an article about the difficulties of finding a place for the Concorde; British Airways would like it to stay in NYC, but it's hard to move a 203 foot jet. And we found this job listing for a collections manager to help the chief curator - applications are due November 1!
11am – 4pm Pier 86 – 88th Army Band
4pm – 7pm FDNY Band
7pm – 8pm USO Metropolitan Troupe
8pm Fireworks ShowSunday, October 1st - 10am-6pm - Last ticket sold at 5pm
Grand Prize drawing for Lucky Visitor at 11am
Education Demos at 1pm, 2pm & 3pm
