No reason to knock the Chip Shop, I've had their fish and chips at the Atlantic Ave location several times and it is always excellent. Their beer selection is impressive too.
Both the fish and the chips should drown in malt vinegar and salt. The only question is which to apply first.
Staunch anglophiles wouldn't touch any of these. Modern touch - lemon? Are you serious. God they all suck badly. You'd think there would be one good place in this big city.

I was unaware the closing of the East Village A Salt & Battery was permanent. Sad. That place satisfied many a fried food craving.
In the west village, the best fish-n-chips is from Westville. A Salt & Battery is inedible.
I ate at the east side A Salt & Battery and it was OK, but not great. I was dissapointed.
