Last Night's Action: The Pedro Problem

2006_09_smetslogo.jpg-Braves 13 Mets 1: The question isn’t whether or not Pedro Martinez should start the first game of the playoffs; it’s whether or not he should start any of them. Pedro had his worst start since coming off the DL, giving up seven runs on eight hits and not throwing above 86-mph. After the game, Pedro admitted that he was “not at the level of Glavine or El Duque” but is he even at the level of Trachsel or Maine?

-Yankees 16 Baltimore 5: Chien-Ming Wang needs to get back on track before taking the ball to start the playoffs next week, but he did enough to earn his 19th win of the season. Wang was the beneficiary of five Yankees’ home runs as New York cruised to the win. Jason Giambi homered and went 3-5 in his first game back since he received another cortisone shot in his wrist. Gary Sheffield went 2-3 and looked more comfortable at the plate.

The last couple of Mets games have been painful.

Sigh, since clinching these Mets are looking like the Mets of the Valentine years...

The Valentine years? Bobby had his team over acheiving and was on top of things as a manager.

Willie is managing this team without a care in the world...like Art Howe.

Ugh! Someone needs to put them out of their misery!

First round rookie choke - met fans will be miserable all winter knowing that the yankees will be getting their rings in the spring. sorry guys wasn't meant to be. you have a new curse, and his name is pedro.

Haha!

If the Mets do get their shit straight, and start playing baseball like they had been most of the year, I'm sure they'll make it through this. I have my doubts though.

If they make it to the WS, I don't think they'll win.

Starting with their last stint against the Pirates and up to now, they have played like crap as a whole. Starting pitching has bombed, and offense has been back to their regular MO of leaving men on base.

As a Yankee fan, I have this to say to my Met brethern: relax. Here's what you've got going for you:

1- the NL blows
2- You've got one of the great postseason performers going for you in Games 1 and 4 (or 5) in El Duque. With everyone relying on him he will be, as Mike Francesa would say, huge... huge.
3- the NL blows
4- they can't pitch, but neither can anyone else except the Astros
5- the NL blows

The Mets s/b fine... pray they don't have to face Houston (Oswalt, Clemens, Pettitte). Then they might be in trouble.
