-Yankees 5 Orioles 4: It’s a weeklong audition for those Yankees who haven’t cemented a place on the playoff roster, so Cory Lidle’s six strong innings were certainly timely. So was another scoreless inning from Brian Bruney and a 1-4 night from Gary Sheffield. Yes, Gary Sheffield has not guaranteed himself a spot on the playoff roster and it is doubtful he will unless he starts to hit again. Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano both went 2-4 to close the gap in their batting race with Joe Mauer.
-Atlanta 12 Mets 0: At this point it might be best to just hit the snooze button on the Mets until next Tuesday or Wednesday. Since clinching last week, they have dropped six out of seven and looked terrible in the process. While it is next to impossible to get motivated for meaningless games, New York needs to figure out how to avoid slumping into the playoffs. Maybe tonight’s game with Pedro on the mound will provide the spark they need.

Go Tigers.
Yankees? A loosely affiliated bunch of obnoxious and overpriced free agents.
Let's hear it for the Minnesota Twins, a real baseball team !
Are you serious? Gary Sheffield will make the postseason roster, definitely.
Sheff, on the roster without question. Torre always prefers a vet. There's always backup.
Free agents? Do you even watch baseball? Oh wait, you mean buying out overpriced contracts from shitty small market teams at a discount? Yeah, those Yankees.
can't there be a separate page for sports coverage on gothamist? i mean, does anyone over the age of 12 really give a crap about baseball???
So this is what goes on in the outer bouroughs.
Cano was 2-5 last night, not 2-4.
Also, "llosely affialiated"? Where have you been for the past 10 years?
I meant "loosely affiliated"...
no, you're wrong boman, the official box score reads 2 for 4.

No, I think Cano was only 2-4: a flyout in the second, HR in the 4th, single in the 5th, and a ground out in the 8th. Lidle's 6 innings were strong, but it was the first 2/3s of an the 7th that killed him, with a homerun and a single that brought in Myers.
Yep, my mistake, Cano was 2-4. Why do I go to NYT for sports info anyway?

Sorry, it was the last 1/3 of the 7th that killed Lidle. He was pretty awesome through 6 2/3rds.
*AHEM*
Go Tigers!
What's with you people? The Yankees? The Yankees?!?!?
