- Ed Levine has a short round up of the Il Buco annual pig roast; looks like it should be on the calendar next year.
- Check out this podcast from The Gilded Fork Culinary Podcast Network, they have William Grimes discussing the topic of restaurant vernacular. Sample topic - use of the word entrée and the difference in the meaning here and across the pond.
- The rise, battle, takedown, and hibernation of E.U. in the East Village has been well chronicled in the food press around town. Throughout all the coverage it seemed that with all the other things taking place in immediate proximity to the East 4th Street and Avenue B location, E.U. was poised to be a plus to the community as opposed to a minus. In light of all that, it is a pleasure to announce that on the heels of Florence Fabricant breaking the news in August of them picking up a beer and wine license they now also have a reopening plan in place. Look for the opening date to be about one month from now, tentatively on October 27th (maybe the 28th), with the stoves to be run by Sara Ochs, currently the Chef de Cuisine of Italian fish temple Esca in the theater district. Kinda odd seeing how original scheduled opening chef Anne Burrell was also a Batali team member.
- Vanity Fair shines its bright spotlight on Alice Waters.
- Check out “The List” from Thrillist this week, not only do they have info for the fun sounding Stone Street Oyster Fest and a worthy happy hour benefiting Alzheimer's research at the 79th Street boat basin, they highlight Not Ray’s pizza, a spot near and dear to our heart from our 2002 “Inauthenticity of Ray’s Pizza” show.
- Pim has Andy Griffin (no joke) posting about the spinach mess. Andy was an original pioneer in the bagged greens business and the article is a nice peelback on an industrial process that touches many lives each day.
