Woman Hit by Truck in Williamsburg

2006_09_wmsbrgdriggs.jpgA 60 year old woman was hit by a truck at Broadway and Driggs Avenue yesterday morning. Kazimiera Dolik, a Polish immigrant, had been crossing the street when a private sanitation truck was making a turn. A witness told the Daily News the truck "had the light and was going slow," but Dolik's legs were crushed by the vehicle. The driver did stay on the scene and was not charged with any crime - except for driving with a suspended license.

Dolik is in critical condition at Bellevue. The Daily News also points out this is the second private sanitation truck accident this week; on Wednesday, a worker was killed when his co-worker back their truck over him.

she was obviously a hipster and deserved it.

Can't wait for the posters who say "it doesn't matter who had the light, pedestrians always have the right of way!"

You know what? Flesh vs. Steel, Steel wins. I'll obey the lights.

If the truck had the light and was turning, it's likely that she had the walk signal.

I hope this poor woman recovers quickly. What a painful thing to happen to someone. These private sanitation trucks usually are speeding along (at least all of the ones I've seen). They need to be more careful than they think. My boyfriend's friend was killed by a private sanitation truck a few years ago. the guy was speeding and figured, oh, they'll get out of my way. He wasn't charged with a crime, but he should have been. It's called being negligent. Just like the vapid, clueless commenters before me.

With that superior attitude, Margo, it's a wonder your boyfriend doesn't jump in front of a truck.

The only, only, only upside of this is that a private sanitation truck, versus a city one, is a hell of a lot easier to sue and recover from.

I think you could make a drinking game from these cycle and pedestian incidents, taking a shot every time you hear a variation of the phrase, "the driver wasn't charged." I can't even remember a story in which the driver WAS charged.

i wonder what the special at Lugar's was that night?
