Last Night’s Action: A Clinch Is Still A Clinch

2006_04_syankeeslogo.jpg-Blue Jays 3 Yankees 2: Sean Henn on the mound, Posada, Damon, Jeter and Giambi in the dugout; it’s hard to say the Yankees really wanted to win this game. Then again, that’s the luxury you have when you only need one more win (or Red Sox loss) to clinch the division. While New York couldn’t get the win, the Twins took care of Boston and the Yankees won their ninth-consecutive AL East crown.

-Florida 6 Mets 3: Let’s face it, we are going to have to wait until the Jets and Giants take the field Sunday if we want to see meaningful games. Yeah, the Mets played most of their regulars, but with even home field in the NL essentially wrapped up, do you think they care how many more games they win? They shouldn’t and we shouldn’t either which will make for a boring, but blissful week around here.

The 2006 World Series starts one month from tomorrow. Let’s hope both our teams are there.

lets not blow off the mets so quickly - the NY Times was saying today that they need to win 8 of the last 12 games to have home field advantage in the NLDS.. that seems like an important think to strive for, specially considering how their last road trip turned out.

Umm...the Mets already home field wrapped up for the NLDS & NLCS.

Thanks to Trevor F'n Hoffman, they won't have it in the World Series.

I wouldn't be worrying about the World Series just yet...

Its so cute how fans of the mighty Yankees are threatened by the Mets.

Oh that's right. The Yankees are threatened by the Mets, even though they have virtually the same record and played against a much superior league. Uh huh. Riiiiiiiiight. Do you know what the Yankees record would be if they got to play close to 80 games against the NL East? I know you guys haven't been to the playoffs in forever, but remember this: playing well during the regular season does not guarantee you a trip the World Series.

Riddle me this Batman...if the Yanks are so far superior to the Mets, why do Yankee fans & Steinbrenner worry so much about the Mets???

Peter Luger doesn't worry about Tad's.

BTW, since your precious Yankees haven't won in almost 6 seasons, I wouldn't be bragging about this decade's Atlanta Braves/Buffalo Bills.

Who says the Yankees are obsessed about the Mets? One Yankee fan(he might not even be a Yankee fan) says not to worry about the WS yet and all of a sudden they're obsessed with the Mets? It doesn't take much to make Met's fans' heads get big. And the Yankees ARE superior to the Mets. Thats not an opinion. As I'm typing this they have a better record and they play in a much tougher league. The Mets can certainly play with the Yankees, don't get me wrong, but lets be real.
BTW, any team(including the Mets) would love to have "droughts" like the Yankees do. 6 yrs
