Studio B Brings Miami to Greenpoint?

2006_09_arts_studiob.jpg

We're a little confused by this new club, Studio B (pictured), brought to us by the people who gave Miami Studio A. Brooklyn Vegan posted this quote from New York Magazine:

"The rockers behind the Delancey and Studio A in Miami have commandeered a onetime Polish nightclub on the outskirts of Greenpoint and are using its over-the-top lights and smoke machines, industrial flavor, and gigantic dance floor for live performances (promoter Todd P. brought the Black Dice to a pre-opening party) and D.J. nights curated by Justine D. (of Motherfucker). In addition to a raised VIP lounge with leather couches overlooking the stage, an intimate, bordello-esque side room hosts its own spinners."

Has anyone been? Smoke machines, VIP lounge, "over the top" lights...what is this doing in Greenpoint? Todd P is booking shows there, which sounds promising.

Studio B is located at 259 Banker Street, btwn Meserole & Calyer Streets, Greenpoint, Brooklyn

oh no! what will become of europa!

I went there to see Second Sun a couple of months ago. The place is pretty cool, but its so out of the way I dont think Id go back.

Hope the Poles enjoy it though.

The first night of the NY Burlesque Fest was there. Nice, but in the middle of nowhere...

Europa is scarey enuff and then this place in the middle of nowhere. Arggg. Dis a bloodied worthless shanty are..it should walk thee plank or I'll cuts ye jolly baggies opfh!! Half yeself a jolly pirate day, eh!!

Went to the Oneida/Black Dice show. Not nearly as over the top as nearby Club Exit where Todd P also sometimes books shows. The moving lights are annoying but the sound is good.

Went to the Shellac show at Europa. Bob Weston wasn't having the Polish disco thing when he asked for no smoke machine and to turn the lights up and keep them constant.

More Greenpoint shows is a good thing.

The Black Dice show there was awesome! They have great sound (and hey, it's all about that fog machine...) Klaxons on Thursday should be cool too!

Avast Maty! Tis a fortnight with buxom maidens in their parly bay, it is . Yaarrrrrg.

"Went to the Shellac show at Europa. Bob Weston wasn't having the Polish disco thing when he asked for no smoke machine and to turn the lights up and keep them constant."

Actually, the exact opposite happened. The Shellac guys wanted the lightshow for their last song, but it never happened, not sure why.

That's club Europa... i used to go there back in high school... Jen, aren't you supposed to know all about this stuff?? Clearly, you are not originally from New York..

Black Dice is cute but I'm sure they're capable of booking their own gigs right? Also, you're about a day behind Brooklyn Vegan on this. Guess you guys need to overhaul your music coverage.

fuck brooklyn vegan.

My boyfriend lives around the corner from this place, and needless to say, we enjoy late night strolls past Plan B (after the morning after pill?) and looking at all the slutty Polish girls who look like they're straight out of 1995. This place is weird.

the sound system is very good. you can easily get car service from Bedford Av or right in front of the club.

ALL I KNOW IS GERMAN THRASH LEGENDS "DESTRUCTION" ARE PLAYING THERE THIS MONTH, HIP HIP HOORAY! THRASH TILL DEATH...
