A Giant Comeback

Giants 30 Philadelphia 24: If you turned the game off sometime during the third quarter you probably think that Gothamist made that final score up. No one could blame you after Philadelphia totally dominated New York through three quarters, sacking Eli Manning seemingly at will and building a 24-7 lead.

Then Eli took over. On 3rd and 18 with the third quarter expiring, Manning completed a 20-yard pass to Plaxico Burress for the first down. Three plays later and a couple of lucky bounces and the Giants recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Still down ten, the Giants and Eagles traded possessions and turnovers. After Wil Demps recovered a Brian Westbrook fumble on the Eagles’ 33, two passes from Manning to Toomer brought New York within three.

Still Philadelphia had the ball and just over three minutes to burn up for the victory. They almost did it and only a great tackle by Sam Madison kept the game going. Manning took over at his own 20 with 58 seconds left and got New York into field goal range with some good completions and a stupid penalty. Once overtime rolled around, the Giants had momentum, but it looked like they might have to kick a long field goal until Manning found Burress on 3rd and 11 for the game-winning touchdown.

So, the Giants stole one and head to Seattle at 1-1 feeling good about themselves and especially their quarterback.
