Do Some Fall Cleaning: Recycle Electronics and Donate Clothing

It's that time of year again, when you trade in your summer clothes for your fall sweaters. And why don't you get rid of the things you never wear while you're at it, as the city is having it's annual Fall Electronics Recycling & Clothing Donation Events in all five boroughs. The first event is this Sunday in Staten Island, and next weekend on September 24, the event will be at Union Square in Manhattan (events in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens happened at the end of the month/early October), and here's what they are taking:

Electronics * computers & laptops
* monitors & printers
* scanners, keyboards & mice
* TVs
* cell phones

We won't accept other kinds of electronics. NYC residents (no businesses allowed*) may drop off material (limit five pieces per person).

All dropped off items will be recycled through contracted vendors and all data on hard drives will be destroyed; no scavenging will be permitted and no tax-deduction receipts will be given out. The first 100 people to drop off electronics at each event will receive a $5 Best Buy Gift Card.

Clothing & Linens
* Clothing: pants, dresses, shirts, sweaters, shoes, handbags, belts
* Linens: blankets, towels, sheets, curtains, tablecloths

Only donate clean, gently used clothing and linens. Place donated items in clear plastic bags and tie securely to avoid moisture contamination. Tax-deduction receipts will be available upon request from either Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

And if you can't make the event, the city has ideas for donating/recycling electronics and clothing. We know you have that 2002 Nokia phone sitting in a cabinet you got before the Sidekick, so give it up already!
