Last Night's Action: Getting Closer To The Playoffs

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg -Mets 7 Florida 4 (11 innings): Hernandez/Mota/Heilman/Wagner, New York has plenty of bullpen firepower late in the game. While that can keep them in the game, their offense can win it. Carlos Delgado singled in the tying run and the Mets took the lead on a passed ball to cut their magic number to 2. If New Yrok wins tomorrow and Philadelphia loses, the Mets clinch their first playoff bearth since 2000.

-Yankees 8 Tampa Bay 4: Cory Lidle was rocked, but Brian Bruney, Mike Myers, Scott Proctor and Karl Farnsworth shut down the Devil Rays to give New York the win. Derek Jeter got a hit to continue his streak and Robinson Cano drove in five as the Yankees lowered their magic number to seven.

Tri-City 9 Staten Island 2: It all comes down to a Thursday night showdown for the Baby Bombers. If they win, they clinch back-to-back titles.
