Brian Van, your comments offend me. I spend a lot of time writing the music posts that I do. I read Spin and NME, and I even read articles on del.icio.us such as "how to be a better writer" and "ten tips on writing a memorable blog post". You're just drinking too much haterade. Music blogs are the new new. The very definition of cool-hunting. Speaking of which, Idolator has posted some great Honey Comb tracks, fitting nicely into your preference for bands 25-45 years old.

Seriously, snark ain't your strong suit. You're like the comedian who throws out his best line to a silent crowd and then, "am I right, people?" JenC has decent taste in music - but you miss the point, the whole Idolator thing seems to be a musing on the clusterfuck that the music biz is in the way that Gawker is an amusing litany of the clusterfuck that celebrity culture is. I think the idea is to sit back and enjoy the long, slow, slide - the less enlightening the better. Let's just see if it works.

To be fair, the entirety of the music journalism industry is utterly useless. Yes, all of you. And anytime someone nails their peers to the wall while making the promise of delivering sober and useful information about the music industry, I file it under the "humorist" category, not "journalism". And almost nothing on new release is good enough to get my attention anyway; until that changes, I'm not going to waste time reading about these sucky bands I don't like, as they are insanely compared to bands from 25 and 45 years ago that I DO like. Idolator is going to be nothing more than additional hipster blogger attention-whoring. It's fine because it's not pre-empting anything on my playlist. It'll just be ignored like the rest of them.

Dear Gothamist, Your snarky comments read as if you actually believe your tastes, recommendations and/or curatorial "skills" reflect a universal consensus of critical greatness or that they represent the musical/cultural vanguard of the city. Hardly. Since when has Gothamist transcended the following examples of their "influence"? 1. Buzzing the often shitty and usually over-hyped local acts that "Gothamist" represents (or wants to). or 2. Recycling buzz from other blogs and perpetuating the flavor-of-the-month/chew-them-up-and-spit-them-out cycle of douchebaggery that is oh so prevalent these days. So, Gawker (Idolator) has crappy taste - big deal! I don't see Gothamist (or "Gothamist's" management company) setting the bar much higher. At least their blog is well written and EDITED!
