The Model Student

2006_9_artclasses.jpg I'm looking for drop-in figure drawing classes around the city. I can't commit - or afford - a class at SVA or one of the college classes. Where else can I go?

We found a comprehensive list here, of sessions and walk-ins throughout the NYC region. There is contact information, directions, as well as class times and fees. One thing we did notice, however, is that the Forum section where they have comments and reviews of the sessions, did not work. We would've loved to be able to see people's opinions.

We also came across the Brooklyn Artists Gym, in Brooklyn, which offers 24/7 studio space for members, and figure drawing sessions for both members and non-members.

Recently, The New York Times had an article reviewing several different drop-in sessions throughout the city. It quickly becomes apparently in the article, that it is beneficial to try out several different sessions to find which one you like best. They all are vastly different in the types of poses they offer as well as the medium and skill level.

Does anyone have some good recommendations for sessions to check out?

I've heard good things about the Spring Drawing Studio & Crosby Painting Studio though I haven't tried it out yet.

Art Students' League is the art world's best kept semi-secret. Cheap sessions- and classes are reasonable (and mucho rewarding) too.
