Last Night's Action: One Up/One Down

-Yankees 9 Orioles 6: It took awhile, but the Yankees’ offense finally came alive in the seventh. After watching Randy Johnson struggle through six innings, New York erupted for six runs in the seventh; the key hit a three-run double by Robinson Cano to erase a four-run deficit.

Despite his struggles, Johnson picked up his 17th win of the season with help from the bullpen. Brian Bruney continued his excellent relief work with a 1-2-3 seventh and after Scott Proctor gave up a home run, Mike Myers and Kyle Farnsworth got the final four outs.

The win gives the Yankees a 10 ½ game lead in the AL East and they expect to activate Hideki Matsui from the DL tomorrow.

-Florida 16 Mets 5: It started ugly for Dave Williams and got worse from there. Williams was rocked for nine runs in three-plus innings of work as he dug New York into a hole from which they could not escape. Cody Ross destroyed the Mets’ pitching staff, belting three home runs as part of his 4-5 night.

Carlos Beltran connected for his fortieth home run of the season in the 4th. With one more homer, Beltran will tie Todd Hundley for the single-season club record.
