Is this a new era in Chinatown buses? The Fung Wah Bus Company has agreed to 30 day of unannounced inspections and driver checks. Last week, a speeding Fung Wah bus overturned on a Massachusetts highway and 33 passengers were injured, raising more concerns about safety on cheap and unregulated bus lines. What's more, Fung Wah will also make sure only "properly trained" drivers who "speak the English language and to converse with the general
public" will be manning the buses. Well, that's all well and good, but what about after the 30 days? Will Fung Wah go back to its old ways? Or will they raise prices in order to keep "up-to-inspection" standards buses and drivesr?
And the group Project Jenny/Project Jan has a song called Chinatown Bus.

I think it's probably good for Fung Wah to be inspected, but remember that Greyhound recently had an overturning accident which killed 5 people. Just so people don't get the impression Fung Wah is running a sub-standard operation.
It was Greyhound's monopoly that lead to their high prices, not their unstinting commitment to quality service.
grr. i thought that this risk was factored into the low price, kind of like when you buy crappy penny stocks. they're both totally guaranteed to go belly up (haha) eventually, but as long as you get the hell off after you reach your modest destination you probably won't die.
i hope the man keeps his hands off my chinatown buses.
