No Style Points, No Matter

Question marks swirled around the Jets and their quarterback, but Chad Pennington must have removed some doubters with his performance during the Jets' 23-16 win over Tennessee on Sunday. Pennington threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns, but more importantly, he didn't look like his arm was the weakest of any NFL starting quarterback. That was the best sign from the Jets' win, which was not exclusively impressive.

First, Tennessee is not a good team. The Titans picked Kerry Collins off the scrap heap and handed him their struggling offense, which doesn't scare many defenses. Their defense is hardly imposing, and Pennington did not disect an All-Pro secondary.

Mike Nugent might be worrying some Jets fans. He missed an extra point and two chip-shot field goals, and he and inconsistent defense allowed the Titans to rally and tie the game late -- and also have a shot to tie it again in the final seconds. All in all, Jets coach Eric Mangini will take the win. He might not get many this year, and he won't be handed many more opportunities to win on the road.
