Fung Wah's Wah-Wah About the Way Home

2006_09_fungwah2.jpgHere we go: Fung Wah Bus's manager says that Tuesday's crash in Massachusetts that left over 30 people injured was due to the route being unfamiliar to the driver. NY1 reported, "The manager says the bus driver had to take an alternate route due to an accident and did not know the area." What? An exit ramp is an exit ramp - you slow down on them! Though the manager says the driver was trained, Fung Wah did break the rules: The driver was "taken out of service" along with the bus because he didn't speak English and had a false log book - both against the law! The federal Department of Transporstation told the AP, "Speeding is their No. 1 challenge. They need to work to curb their drivers' behavior," but said that Fung Wah had been responsive to DOT concerns in the past.

Senator Charles Schumer, who had said the Chinatown buses need to be regulated more last year, said that Tuesday's crash "was a wake-up call." And did you read the Times article about the other bus company clash - it's Hasidic bus operator smackdown.

here's an idea. revoke their license to operate. what a novel idea.

Why on earth would a person pay to travel to boston for pizza? it's all crap up here. I drive back home to Brooklyn when I want pizza.

What about that Greyhound accident upstate that killed a bunch of people? Oh, that was an ACCIDENT. The bus driver was a hero. Please. Fung Wah gets into an accident and all of a sudden it needs more regulations. Fung Wah should just change its name to "Cracker Bus Company" and it won't get all this shit. Fuckin' double standards.

New York, in fact, has the worst pizza. Where's the deep dish? I'm so sick of the wimpy limp thin crust crap.

wtf does the headline mean?

Why do you quote gas-bag Schumer? The guy complains and complains about everything after the fact. Always says the federal govt should do more, just to put his name in the headlines. He, and everybody else knows nothing will be done. So, if people stopped quoting his gas-bag, he'd eventually just shut up, and maybe actually start doing, instead of just talking about doing.

the chinatown buses to philly (fung wah, apex, etc) are all run by the same people, operating off the same little corner on east broadway.

then suddenly one of the buses doesn't show up, and your apex ticket doesn't work on fung wah, forcing you to purchase yet another nonrefundable ticket (the first one is good for one year, they say) while they save the cost of operating an additional bus.

that said, i do appreciate the incredibly low cost of travel through the BosWash area - it really does tie the east coast cities together.

E-Rock doesn't regularly travel to Boston for pizza on Fung Wah. I think he was going to Boston already, so we assigned him some pizza reviews to do while he was up there.

I always worry about how the low prices forces Fung Wah to cut corners...especially since "little brother" takes it to go to Boston.

There are constant problems with these buses and anyone who takes them regularly knows that. These buses have engine problems on a regular basis. The price is right, but the ride sucks.

I always figured you get what you pay for. You want a $10–25 ticket to Boston? OK, but you might not get there in one piece, or you'll spend five hours squished in with a million smelly hippies. Because how can you expect a legit company to keep up a fleet of buses and pay qualified drivers a fair wage with prices like that?

I take Lucky Star and never have a problem. We even get discounts on chinese buffet :P

When will Chuck Schumer and his friends figure out that we take Fung Wah BECAUSE they drive fast! DUH! And yet still it feels safer than any busted ass greyhound bus I've ever taken.
