- Streetsblog notes how the NYPD parking abuse scandal gets crazier as one cop harasses a CBS 2 reporter and as one Chinatown businessman is arrested for photographing illegaly parked cars
- Something all three candidates for Governor can agree on: SUNY and CUNY should not be merged
- Horrible story: A woman abandoned her three year old child in Chinatown, after an argument with her husband - bitter divorce or no bitter divorce, you don't say to a kid, "Go away! I don't want you anymore!", leave her and then go back to Queens and head to the police precinct asking where your daughter might be
- Al Jazeera releases a tape of Osama bin Laden with 9/11 hijackers
- Corona's Louis Armstrong House Museum will get a visitors' center - now they just need to find an architect
- People, from residents to immigrant workers, rally for health coverage for Ground Zero-related illnesses; good luck getting Pataki to approve that
- BREAKING: Alex Rodriguez placed on the "emotionally disabled list" (please note, this is from the Onion)
- And hot panda news in Hotlanta: The Atlanta Zoo's Lun Lun had a baby (size is similar to a...BUTTERSTICK!)
- Kosher butcher betrays Jews with chicken!
- Nutty: the somewhat complicated scheme if you want a refund for your copy of "A Million Little Pieces".

Poor kid is going to have some serious issues growing up :( .

didn't someone ask why all the NYPD hate?
See the three videos on WCBS.
Thank you gothamist for keeping this on the front burner.

Once again the NYPD shows itself as an entirely corrupt and dysfunctional group of thugs, who apparently have immunity from violating the laws which they supposedly swear to uphold. And just think, that detective is regarded as one of the more "intelligent" ones of the force.....Good work CBS.

Remember kiddies, the cop's car was parked in front of a fire hydrant.
What if your home or business was on fire?
A fire hydrant, folks. I think there's a law against that for a reason.

Wow, that poor little girl. Hope she's young enough to forget that!

IMO, That woman needs Professional help...

At least none of them want to privatize SUNY, can't say that of our current governor.

I can tell you this, growing up around cops... don't f*** with their parking spots! Man, those permit cards were like gold, like an extra paycheck. They were passed down through generations... and yes, I had one, even though I have a hard time spelling NYPD.

I will admit, I used to park my car on a no-standing block near a precinct in midtown and one morning I pulled in, locked up, and looked up to find a scooter cop stopped and staring at me, arms crossed. I just said, "fine, I'll move the car, I don't want any problems." He looked at me and said, "Where do you work?" I told him I got the card from my old man and he started to ride away. I asked if we were cool and he said, "Yeah, I got one for my kid, too."

'Course, I reformed and never do these things anymore.

It's an odd situation, a police officer's sense of entitlement. They do do a tough job, and some have long commutes, but sometimes you just want to stand up and say, "Don't you see how you undercut yourselves when you pull stuff like this?"

Thanks for the very educational post, Tim. It's great to read real examples instead of just a lot of reactionary anger (like I always write).

But you didn't park in front of a fire hydrant.
I hope the community fights this tooth and nail.
I'd like to see the percentage of cops who live within the five boroughs and which has over an hour commute from Rockland and Suffolk ctys.
It seems this was not really a problem a decade ago.
Now they're parking on the sidewalk.

but then a No Standing Zone must be there for a reason, for instance, so Emergency Vehicles can access it in times of need.
