The manhunt for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips, who escaped from an Erie County jail and shot three state troopers, may get some help from the NYPD. The NY Sun reports that the NYPD has been in discussion with the New York State Police to send over Emergency Service Unit officers (ESU is what the NYPD calls its SWAT unit) to aid in the manhunt.
If you've been following coverage of Phillips' escape, you'll know that he escaped the prison by using a can opener to cut a hole in the ceiling and that folks in his hometown of Cassadaga were serving "Bucky Burgers" and "Run, Bucky, Run" t-shirts. But then Phillips ambushed two state troopers who were looking for him last week, with one trooper, Joseph Longobardo dying from his wounds over the weekend. People suspect Phillips cause more violence before he's found, leading residents across upstate to worry about going out.
The NY State Police's website has information about Longobardo and a Wanted poster for Phillips - the bounty for Phillips is now $225,000.

You should correct this blurb to note Phillips is the ALLEGED shooter of the three troopers. He has not yet been convicted or confessed to those crimes...
Note to self. Never go ANYWHERE near Cassadaga, NY. It's filled with freaks.
Note to police: When you take revenge upon a suspects' family
by taking their kids away under false pretense, you just might turn someone who's slightly unhinged into a real nutjob. Especially when the suspect says he will do exactly that. Good luck with that, NY State Police! I doubt this will be last officer shot/killed....
I grew up upstate what seems like a long time ago. Cassadaga is full of freaks. It is Appalachia technically. But this isn't the first time this guy has been a fugitive for months at a time. In the early 90's he also was on the run and stole my neighbors car. A couple months later he got caught trying to cross into Canada.
I want a "See Bucky Run. See Bucky Shoot People. See Bucky Die" T-shirt. With a nice pic of him looking like Al-Zarkawi.
And yo Jerky, good job choosing your screenname. So when can we expect YOU to go on a shooting spree?.
Bring out the Body Heat detection...
Thermal Radar... you know what I am talking about.
Fly some choppers over slow and if its not a bear it might be Bucky.
Find him, Try him, if convicted, Lock him up and throw awat the key.
He is probably in NJ.
It is to easy to hide here.
"He is probably in NJ.
It is to easy to hide here"
TELL ME ABOUT IT!.
Read the NYTimes article Desk Sgt; The State Police created this situation and then seem surprised by the outcome. They're obviously not the brightest when it comes to psychological profiling. Or how to conduct covert surveillance. At this point there is no other outcome possible other than a helluva shootout.
Just kill the whole damn family and stop the genes from spreading.
Phillips is said to be hanging around Chautauqua County, because his daughter and grandchildren are there, and supposedly, thats why he escaped from jail-he thought he was to be transferred to another jail out of WNY. So, why now is he so concerned about being a daddy and grampa? Why was he not concerned with being a father, for 22 of his 44 years, when he was in and out of one jail after another? This guy is a loser and a wasteproduct and has been his whole adult life. Why his family and friends are giving him clothes, money, food, places to stay, is beyond me. He's never been too concerned about how his actions affect them. They should have turned him in the first time he showed his sorry face, and collected the reward. At least then, he would have done something for them-paid the rent and groceries for a year or so. The NYSP did nothing to create Phillips' alleged shooting of 3 troopers, killing of one, theft of a number of cars, and break ins of vacations homes. Phillips did this all on his own, and would have, had he not been "aggravated" by the troopers. He's a violent person and has been for years.
I hope they get him, and get him alive. He wants to commit suicide by cop, or so he says, but I think it would be more fitting, for him to end up in a maximum security cell, across the state, as far away from his family as possible.
