Last Night's Action: No Rain = Lots of Tennis

With the U.S. Open behind thanks to two days of rain, plenty of tennis was played on Sunday in Flushing. Andre Agassi's final match, a loss to qualifier Benjamin Becker, drew most of the headlines, but Andy Roddick's resurgence also deserves some attention. He won his third-round match over Fernando Verdasco and will play Becker -- not Agassi -- in the fourth round. Jimmy Connors may have helped the 2003 champion, but only time, and tougher matches, will tell.

-Yankees 10, Twins 1: Alex Rodriguez has been villified enough, and he's finally forcing fans to cheer for him. He hit two more home runs Sunday as the Yankees took two of three from the Twins, extended their AL East lead to nine games and reduced their magic number to 18. With Detroit struggling, the Yankees could end up with the best record in the American League.

-Astros 2, Mets 1: At least they got a baserunner. Jose Reyes' infield single in the seventh broke up a perfect game, and the Mets got shut down by Houston's Roy Oswalt. Orlando Hernandez made his first start since Aug. 20 and struggled with his control, walking six. Given Hernandez's postseason reputation, the Mets hope he rediscovers his location before October.
