Yes, stay out of Queens. You might as well be living in New Jersey or Long Island - pretty lame.

That's right. Nothing to see in Astoria. Move along folks. Train takes forever, it's smelly, they have fights at the pool. Nothing to see here. Keep moving. You didn't hear anything.

oh my god! there's not an exactly proportionate ratio of women in supervisory positions to women in the police?? first of all, that's fucking shocking to me! second, something needs to be done. there's obviously no reason it's like this other than blatant discrimination.

the best part of the article about astoria is the reference to the possibility of NYC winning the 2012 Olympic bid.

Astoria might be prime real estate in terms of (more) affordable housing, but I'd be shocked if it gentrified to the extent that Williamsburg has. There are far too many thriving local business which cater to the current residents, thus reflecting the spectrum of ethnicities, economic/social classes and tastes in our neighborhood. Astoria also lacks the vast stretches of abandoned or empty industrial spaces which attracted artists (and the resulting hipness which attracted wealthier tenants) to Williamsburg or L.I.C.

Actually, there are more people of Italian descent than Greek in Astoria. However, the Greeks are more recent immigrants so it's more obvious.
