A group of three teenaged boys stabbed a 15 year old boy while on a D train in Brooklyn. The Post suggests the attack could have been gang-related, as witnesses said all three teens - ages 13, 14, and 16 - were "each wearing a white shirt with black stripes and a red do-rag." The trio had been arguing with the victim, and then stabbed him. The police were able to apprehend the teens, who said their gang was S42 and were charged with assault.
The Post's witness account illustrates how it's difficult for subway passengers during these altercations - it seems (and makes sense) that most people just don't want to get involved for fear of their own safety. Victor Wijaya said, "People started arguing, some gangster kids. I didn't want to know what it was about. Then I heard all this screaming. Somebody yelled, 'Somebody got stabbed! Stop the train! Pull the brake!' and these guys ran and pulled the brake."

I would have trouble jumping in as well. It's too risky. A friend of mine once intervened in order to help a girl from being harassed by a group of guys. He ended up being beaten with a bottle. The girl was fine, which was a good thing. My friend was sent to the ER. The kids that hit him were never found. I felt badly for his wife for who watched the whole thing, if she hadn't been there it could have been much, much worse.
Tough call. You want to help but helping could cost you your life. It's unfortunate.
