Food as Foreplay

garlic1x.jpgThe UK Observer has an amusing piece on great affair restaurants: where do you go for romance, discretion and good food? What do you eat and what do you avoid? (Garlic, lettuce and spinach made their avoid list, as did red wine with its unfortunate black-tooth effect.)

It got Gothamist wondering: what are the great affair restaurants in New York? You want to leave your neighborhood, obviously. Nowhere near where you work, either, especially if the affair is with a coworker. (We once busted two coworkers, midfling, because we kept catching them together on the elevator at lunchtime.) Do you hide in plain sight, like at a midtown tourist trap? But where's the romance (or good food) there?

What are your recommended restaurants for a fling in New York?

if you're gay and liberal, go to the upper east side, if you're straight and conservative, go to chelsea or the les. if you're a hipster, go to the upper west. if you're boring, go to williamsburg.

Shame on Gothamist for encouraging someone to have an affair.

    Stay truthful to your husband/wife/bf/gf!

Public in Nolita -- the atmosphere is perfect and the innovative non-red-wine drinks are great, along with an interesting wine list.
