Taking time out of his usual schedule running NYC and counting his money, Mayor Bloomberg appeared on MTV in (a taped segment) to hype the MTV Video Music Awards, which are back in NYC this year. Yup, that's why it's messy around Radio City Music Hall and that's why all these celebrities and "celebrities" (LC from The Hills, we're talking to you) are in town. Famous New Yorkers are asked who they think will win the Video of the Year Award - Pat Kiernan of NY1, Wendy Williams, the Naked Cowboy, Donald Trump. As Newsday points out, the Mayor was flanked by the "several young members of his staff" (like Ed Skyler?) and threw his support behind Shakira in a faux-deliberation in front of a computer:
"As mayor of New York, this really is a tough one. I could go with Christina; she was born in New York... I could go with Madonna; she made it big here in New York... I think I'm going to have to go with Shakira. Those hips don't lie."Why are we simultaneously amused and creeped out by that? But the best part was when Mr. Met was asked who he thought should win - they did of a split screen of Madonna in "Hung Up" and Mr. Met dancing!

It is a good thing that the mayor doesn't have the final say in who wins Video Of The Year. He knows nothing about good music. Shakira is all about sex, soft porn, period. Her videos are not the very best dancing and singing. If she could sing, she wouldn't need the sexual schtic.
What's your gimmick?
Sexual stimulaiton is what the Mayor is responding to in regards to her; which is not a strong enough criterion for winning an award. Why doesn't she just pose for Play Boy and leave the music entertainment to the professionals.
She is not the only one. The industry has lost their perspective on what good music and entertainment is.

I think that is awesome. I love that he can chat about things like Madonna and Shakira. He's like your geeky dad who makes an effort but invariably embarasses you. You gotta love him.

AIDS is on the rise in the black community. The rise is blamed on the HIP HOP and Rap music industry and the culture. The research states that the industry is too loose. The videos and lyrics encourage overtly, blatant permissive liberal behavior.
I think the Mayor should have thrown is vote to a different singer. Maybe a guy in the industry that behaves like a gentleman.

They can not tell "YOU" that her music is Hip Hop because you would run. The essence of her current music has everything to do with Hip Hop and Rap. Wake up!
Sorry to tell you but, Classical and Rap/Hip Hop music are the highest sellers of albums to date. I am sure she is placing her talent where the money is.

Gosh Jenn, is a sentence which starts without a capitlized letter, but ends with a period considered an error? Yes. In fact, in a typing test, that would be considered a typographical error. Also, since we are preoccupied with editing today, where is the apostrophy in "that’s." You should have typed dats.
