Brooklyn Murder Connection to NJ Teen's Murder

2006_08_cpn.jpgThe Post reports that the police are investigating whether there's a link between the murder of Brooklyn teen Chanel Petro-Nixon and the NJ teen Jennifer Moore who was killed after a night of clubbing. Police have been showing a photograph of the suspect in Moore's murder, self-proclaimed pimp Draymond Coleman, in Petro-Nixon's Brooklyn neighborhood. In June, Petro-Nixon was on her way to an Applebee's to apply for a job, and she never made it home - her strangled body was found in a garbage bag days later. Moore had been strangled and was stuffed into a garbage bag as well. Another thing: Coleman is suspected of washing Moore's body with bleach to remove clues, and Petro-Nixon's body had a "chemical scar on her leg - possibly caused by bleach." A source tells the Post, "Until we get something concrete we can't rule anyone out."

Police have been stymied by the lack of help from Petro-Nixon's neighborhood in the case. Her murder is featured on America's Most Wanted website, noting that Daily News columnist Errol Louis has written extensively about the murder in order to help bring information to the investigation.

the mostly white and largely manhattan centric readers of this blog might not care, but as a father of a bed-stuy daughter, this story was sad and disturbing. The fact that a white NJ girl was killed a few weeks later and the murder was solved instantly while this one went mostly unnoticed was infuriating and disheartening. If this guy is indeed a viable suspect (and not merely a convenient scapegoat), I wish the PD much luck in connecting the dots, and I hope they are working diligently on solving similar unsolved disappearances/murders in NYC's poorer neighborhoods (whether or not the tabloids deem them important enough for their lurid front page spreads...)

lets be honest. the life of a black woman in the "hood" has little to no value. what matters most to these misguided idiots is street cred and keeping it real. you can't blame whitey for everything.

It is shocking to think that a good, churchgoing, straight A student on her way to a job interview could be abducted from a busy area with apparently no witnesses. I hope her killer(s) is brought to justice.

Gothamist said that "police have been stymied by the lack of help from Petro-Nixon's neighborhood in the case," but it is my understanding that many people in the neighborhood had come together to publicize this terrible crime in hope of having it solved. In fact, there is a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest of the killer.

who's blaming whitey for the murder?
so, you know it's a white person who murdered Ms. petro nixon? because if you do, you should go to the police and tell them what you know.
this murder is still unsolved.

oh i hope that is the guy. i can't believe the police are actually doing something!

"the "hood" has little to no value"

that is because there is SO much going on..

well let's do the math, shall we? Black man=3/5 of human being (see US Constitution, article I sec 2). Woman = half a man (we're down to 30% of a person now). Poor people = less than dirt (assume 30% discount rate). Therefore, life of black woman = little to no value. Amazing. When you actually do the math it's true! I'm glad abu fatoush opened my liberal, poor people respecting "third eye" to this stunning revelation... now I can stop treating people (aka "idoits") in the "hood" with respect and just give them desired "street cred" and everyone will be happy. keep it right, aggin.

You missed what Abu was saying.

This girl's life has (had, sigh...had) value...the life of a girl in a neighborhood where the rate of crimes against women and children is in peril, and it's the norm. Domestic violence, neglect, muggings...and yes, abductions....every time I read about an attempted abduction or an abduction where the victim is grabbed, raped in a van, and tossed out, it's in the same neighborhoods.

There's only so much control a person can have over the community they live in and how safe it is for them and their kids. The point is....this crime was horrible, but it is not really surprising that it happened in Bed-Stuy.
