Half Marathon Manhattan

2006_08_marathonnyc.jpg

Yesterday was the first NYC Half Marathon, which saw over 10,000 runners take over the streets of Manhattan. The course route was the loop in Central Park, and then down Seventh Avenue (through Times Square), making a left 42nd Street to head to the West Side Highway, and taking that all the way down to Battery Park. Kenyans won the men's and women's races - Thomas Nyariki finished in 1:01:22 and Catherine Ndereba's time was 1:09:43. Australian Benita Johnson finished second in the women's race - by three tenths of a second - while American Meb Keflizighi finished in 1:01:28. The top NYC residents' times? As far as we can tell, Demesse Tefera finished in 1:03:17, and Abbi Gleeson had a 1:22:00.

In spite of the rainy, dreary weather that didn't provide optimal photography conditions, we still love ultraclay!'s set of NYC Half Marathon pictures - see the runners in a closed-off Times Square is awesome. And it's just 68 days until the NYC Marathon!

  • Huh?

Snaz, I listed to the ABC video 3 times and still have no idea what the fuck you're talking about.

  • Snaz

Did anyone watch any of the video in the ABC link? What condescending, sexist, awful drivel in "Following the lead runners mile 8-10." I'm disgusted.

You would make a right, not a left on 42nd St. to reach the Westside Hwy. if you were coming down Seventh Ave.

  • Great race. The weather wasn't good for spectators, but it was great for runners who fear the heat, like me. The course was also great for the runners, as after the first 6 mile loop in the park, the remaining 7.1 through the streets were relatively flat and downhill. Plenty of water stops throughout, and gel packs near the end for those who hit the wall.
