Please Explain: Robot Parade!

2006_08_26_robotparade.jpg

So we love They Might Be Giants as much as the next blog. And of course we've occasionally thought "gee, it'd be fun to paint lyrics to a TMBG song onto a silver cardboard box," but we never actually went through with it or anything.

But it seems that somebody did.

Contributer vermillonink caught this photo out in Park Slope and it has us scratching our heads. Yes, Robot Parade is a fun song, but why is it on a silver box in Park Slope? Are children in fact working together to build a giant cyborg robot parade? Was this a holdover from the rained out Robot Parade back in April? Did we miss the singularity? Is the future now?

In any event it is a slow weekend newsday in August and we need a drink.

Tompkins Square Park - Meet at the Temperance Fountain, not far from the park entrance at 9th Street and Avenue A. We will then triumphantly roll, grind, creak, bump, crawl and walk around the circle.
As the good city has told us, "no vehicles, no amplified sound, no grilling, no alcoholic beverages, no raindate, no banners."

Someone was obviously high as a kite when they thought of this... Think about it... there they are, sitting, listening to tmbg, hear the song, say,"oh damn, these lyrics are IT! They explain everything! I wanna make a FREAKING ROBOT! I'M GONNA DO IT!! ON A CARDBOARD BOX! AND THEN I'LL PUT IT IN THE STREET!!!"

then they are early in the high, still energetic, they get up, and get that box, and maybe even make a high trip to the supermarket...

anyway, the box gets made... and placed.... and gothamist writes a post on it... and there we have it... the story of this wonderful robot!

But really, a robot box would make a wonderful halloween costume... and that said, everyone, lets make this year the YEAR OF THE ROBOT BOX COSTUMES!

Also, for the contest, which is, I repeat, A high idea simply being realized after the high, it is still an amazing idea; ahem... I digress, that you should also consider 2 person robot boxes. I have seen it before, and it is quite brilliant.

so. see you all robotin around this oct 31.

peace and good night
