THEATER: Perhaps even more challenging than producing a play in 24 hours, as in the well-known series mentioned yesterday, is writing a good play that lasts only 8 minutes. Maybe that's why Turtle Shell Productions calls their challenges to playwrights from around the country to do just that "8 Minute Madness." Plays are performed in groups of nine and judged by both audience members and a panel of theater people, and are advancing now toward the finale. - Mallory Jensen

EVENT: The Onion's A.V. Club has their latest in the Definitive Mixlist series tonight. Listen to selections from that mix, themed "The New Adventures Of Jesus." Newcastle from 7 to 9 (or until it runs out).

MOVIE: It's not a summer night without a free movie playing somewhere outdoors. Tonight River Flicks shows A Clockwork Orange as the sun sets and you snack on free popcorn.

8:30pm // Hudson River Park, Pier 54 // Free

MUSIC: Apes and Androids. Duh!

11pm // Sin-e // $10

If you want another option, even though we can't see why you would, you can head over to Mercury Lounge for the solid lineup of: Mobius Band, Alice Smith and Eiffel Tower. We recently caught Alice Smith at Rockwood Music Hall, and she belts out some sweet tunes.
