When there's a bottle, there's a way to get nervous. Two separate incidents, one underground and the other in the air, involving bottled liquids caused diversions and stoppages. A flight from Atlanta to NYC was diverted to Charlotte, NC when a flight attendant was concerned about a strange-smelling bottle of water. Or make that "water." Once the plane landed, the bomb-sniffing dogs were brought on and crew and passengers were interviewed. But nothing suspicious or hazardous was found, and the flight got back on its way three hours later. Of course, the passengers had to be re-screened, and one apparently had a "medical emergency" and went to the hospital. But all in the name of safety, no?
And on a 6 train yesterday morning, the police were told there was a "suspicious bottle of liquid" seen at 125th Street. So the NYPD spot-checked the train at a number of stations in MIdtown. According to the Daily News, the police asked, "Is anyone carrying a liquid?" leading a woman in gym clothes to give up her "Poland Spring water bottle with red juice inside it" (the police took the bottle). This should be interesting - will the police start checking the liquids we carry when they do bag searches? But if this means they'll get rid of the bottle of pee on the platform, is it such a bad thing to be paranoid?

this is getting fridiculous

That's just perfect. Now everyone gets to panic everytime someone takes a swig from a Sports Watter Bottle. What's next?
paranoia is the best technique used by this bullshit Government to terrorize its own population
Honestly, this is really getting out of hand.
The person probably snuck some cheap vodka onto the flight.
I wonder what people will think when they see water bottles that's out of the ordinary such as the Aluminum Sigg bottles.
Hey we fight them there so we don't need to fight them here, right?
Stay vigilant, America. Liquids, even seemingly innoculous ones like water, kill close to 7,000 people a year between our GWOT allies in the UK and here.
This is ridiculous.
On our flight back to NY the other day, my boyfriend accidently forgot to take his contact lens solution out of his backpack and it went under the xray machines unnoticed.
Not to mention anyone could buy a soda by the gate and place in his or her backpack.
Rachel, flying back from Toronto, When I bought a soda they poured it into a cup (no lid) and kept the bottle.
This "We'll Keep you safe!!!!!" will get worse as November approaches.
Christ. This is so out of hand. SD is right. As November approahces we'll see more and more of this paranoia and fear-mongering. "Don't change horses mid-stream!"
Honestly, the terrorists have won if we continue this crap.
Hopefully this will scare people away from flying, lowering Airline prices.
I want to get tickets to London soon and prices are a bit too high for my tastes.
I have always seen abandoned water bottles rolling around in subway cars...OH MY GOD I COULD HAVE DIED...maybe
Re S.D., "When I bought a soda they poured it into a cup (no lid) and kept the bottle."
So you can carry liquids (including explosives) on a plane if they're in a cup?
I love how people are so stupid they focus on the wrong thing. Not even The Onion could make this stuff up.
From TSA site, the things you can and cannot bring onto a plane:

:-/
I don't think I've ever taken a water bottle with me on an airplane.
"Like OMG, I cannot live without my Poland Spring bottled water!"
Is it so bad to ask the FA for a drink, or drink BEFORE the flight? Lighten up people.
Whats wrong with bringing an empty cup and filling up in the bathroom??? Water is water.
"paranoia is the best technique used by this bullshit Government to terrorize its own population"
So true and all in the guise of keeping all you mofos safe while slowly taking all your rights away, spying on your phone conversations and what-nots. Eventually we'll just have to suspend the Constitution and declare Martial law all in the name of keeping this bastion of democracy from the hands of those dirty terrorist. If we don't declare Martial law Osama will win.
and by the way, the sequel to Sammy J's next film: "LIQUIDS ON A PLANE"
Samuel J.: "Who the Muthrf*'er let this can of Sprite on this dicweed plane?!"
Bathroom water from the sink on planes is not safe to drink...
Yeah, not to be picky but water on airplane and also Amtrak bathrooms is NOT the same and NOT safe to drink. If it is not marked outright as 'non potible' you should STILL think twice. There are many well documented cases about people getting very sick because the bacteria in the water is way over the allowed amount. I also remeber several news items alerting people to this in the past.
Maybe the next step would be for terrorists to swallow capsules of nitroglycerin. Then after that attack, all airline passengers would have to void their bowels before boarding planes. Or at least submit to X-rays every time, allowable radiation exposure be damned.
This stupid government is letting the terrorists win. We're living in terror, exactly as the terrorists want us to. What we need to do as a people and a nation is stand up and say we'd be angry and saddened over any victims of attacks, but we're not going to change one single way we live life and there's nothing they can do to us. If they spent as much effort trying to help each other as trying to blow themselves up, the Middle East would be the jewel-like envy of the world.
Odds on NYPD shooting someone 47 times because they wouldn't "drop the water bottle!": 2:1
Am I allowed to have saliva in my mouth when boarding a plane or taking the subway ..or is spit also considered a 'liquid'?.
Also, if it is can I spit it into a cops face when asked to "surrender all liquids"?
Gimme a freakin' break.
I'll tell you one thing for sure, with all this paranoic bullshit it appears quite clear that Bin Laden is winning the 'war on terror' and WE'RE the only freakin' losers.
As salaam alaikum.
1984 is coming everyone. Can you hear the drums and chanting becoming louder and getting closer?
Bin Laden and terrorists are our Two Minute Hate. Think about it. For all we know Bin Laden is already dead and suspiciously bad quality videos and voice recordings of him are being produced by our own government to ummm...keep up the momentum.
The explosive liquids mentioned would require 12-36 hours of cure time and are too dangerous to mix in an airplane loo and far to sophisticated for even some laboratories. The word is propaganda and BS.
Something must be done about the lies and deceit.
Something must be done about the fear mongering and destruction of civil rights.
The victims are the citizens. "There is no spoon".
