Last Night’s Action: Carlos+Carlos > Albert

2006_04_smetslogo.jpg-Mets 8 Cardinals 7: It is a very real possibility that these two teams will be facing off in October with a trip to the World Series on the line. If that does happen, the Mets took a huge psychological advantage with their win tonight. Down 7-1, Carlos Delgado hit a grand slam; his second home run of the game and Carlos Beltran sent them home happy in the ninth with a two-run blast off of Jason Isringhausen. All the runs overcame two homers and seven RBI’s by the amazing Albert Pujols.

While the news on the field was certainly good, so was the news off of it. Tom Glavine is going to avoid surgery and with some medication should be able to pitch again this year and soon. In addition, the Mets pulled off a trade for Shawn Green with Arizona. While Green is no longer the home run threat he once was, his bat should help an outfield that has struggled since the injury to Cliff Floyd and the trade of Xavier Nady.

-Seattle 6 Yankees 5: Bobby Abreu hit a three-run blast and A-Rod added a two-run shot to put the Yankees out in front 5-3. But, the New York bullpen couldn't hold the lead and Adrian Beltre won the game with a walk-off home run in the ninth.

-Hudson Valley 6 Brooklyn 0: The Cyclones only managed two hits in the loss

-Staten Island 4 Aberdeen 3: Chris Kunda provided the difference with a solo shot in the eighth.
