A rational arguement would suggest that when the project is completed, those living nearby in Park Slope, Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, and Clinton Hill would have a large rent increase due to the rising property values. Those affordable housing units set aside in the development would really just be a tit-for-tat trade for the 'no longer affordable housing.'

Because of this, the net gain isn't as large as it is being put forth, except that now your affordable housing is in a denser population with an instant 10,000 new neighbors.

This is an improvement?

Koch, Samantha and KingKong.

The sky is falling. Please run, no, get on your bikes and pedal like your little heart can to that meeting and make your voice of discontent heard!

Seriously though, throughout all this nonsense there hasn't been a solid argument that can detract from the housing created by Ratner's plan. Traffic? Ride the fukcing subway. Shadows? Move to a field upstate.

And don't use "have you READ anything about this development?" as an argument. Obviously you feel that is a powerful statement in your world, but to someone who isn't on your "side" I don't have a clue what you are speaking. Make a rational argument, back it up with facts.

I'm a resident of Fort Greene and my block will be hugely affected by this development. On one hand, I think it will be cool to have that scale in Brooklyn - it will be more like Manhattan, I suppose. On the other hand, I wish the city would give more thought to how to manage the strain on infrastructure. Traffic (pedestrian, driven, and subway) will absolutely BLOW.

Definitely gone is the pleasant coziness of Brownstone Brooklyn. Then again, how long could that really last? 7-10 years has been quite a run in this phase of the gentrification.

Also, Rosie Perez doesn't fall in the NIMBY, hipster category. She's Brooklyn born-and-bred.

ho-mey and koch, have either of you even READ anything about the project?

"fuckwitburg"? and "sterilize all the hipster scum"? come on! that's just a pointless and ridiculous statement.

right on ho-mey!

god forbid anyone try and invest some money in this city, without first asking how they should spend it!

I still think they should build a fence around fuckwitburg and sterilize all the hipster scum.

Rise, nimby idiots from your slumber, its time to attack the all-powerful-faceless-developer! You'll need all your nimby wits and comebacks (ex. "Its just too tall for new york city" or "it will create more strain on our meter maids" or "how dare they offer affected tenants merely millions of dollars?".

You'll need all your stamina to stand up against the evildoers who dare build any housing in our city. God speed.
