Gothamist Band of the Week: Hysterics

hysterics_2.jpg

Hysterics are: Josh Barocas, Oliver Ignatius, Charlie Klarsfeld and Geoff Turbeville

As you can most likely tell from the picture, these guys are like 17 years old. Had you listened before you looked, this bit of news should come as quite a surprise. Hysterics are hardly a high school novelty act. Their psychedelic-pop influences may predate their birth, but they are pitch perfect in creating a youthful reincarnation of the music that stirred their parents generation. First noticed by JP at Music for Robots, then by MTV's You Hear it First and most recently V2 records, these kids are juuuuust about to blow up. Keep an eye on them for us and make sure they're not getting into any trouble.

They'll be at the Canal Room tonight and have a number of local shows already booked for the fall. You can check the upcoming gigs, as well as listen to a few songs at their Myspace page.

Are you in a local band that deserves this city's attention? Have you discovered a group that needs to be noticed? Email us at jeff@gothamist.com, we're always looking to hear something new.

if I get a dumbass haircut can I be listed here too? Seems to be the only qualification.

The next white guy or half-white guy I see with an afro, I'm going to stick my burning cigar in it and enjoy.
