Firefighter Attacks Cop Over Woman

2006_08_fdpd.jpgWell, this isn't going to do anything to rehab the image of firefighters: Sean Murray, who works at Ladder 140 in Queens, attacked an off-duty police officer who drove Murray's ex-girlfriend home. A witness saw Murray attack Ahmad Kessba and told the Daily News, "He just kept on stomping and stomping on his face. The man on the ground looked dead." Yikes. Murray's ex, Jennifer Ray, had broken up with him because he was jealous and had followed her on a trip to Virginia - and the attack happened around 4:30AM, when Kessba and Ray pulled up with Murray waiting outside Ray's house. Apparently Kessba tried to tell Murray he was a cop, but then:

Murray...demanded to see Kessba's police shield. But before the cop could respond, Murray stripped off his own shirt and set upon Kessba. The firefighter choked the cop and pounded his head on the pavement "six to eight times," as Ray screa-med, authorities said. With Kessba unconscious, Murray allegedly tried to get at Ray, who had locked herself in the cop's Infiniti sedan. She called 911 on her cell phone.

Rather than flee, Murray, still raging, returned to Kessba's motionless body, choked him and stomped him again at least six more times, authorities said.

Murray's bail was set at $250,000. Murray's lawyer claims that Kessba was interfering in Murray and Ray's argument and Murray told reporters he was punched in the face. Kessba, though, suffered a brain hemmorhage, which is just crazy.

Oh, and Ray and Murray met when Murray was investigating a gas leak.

I know Sean ... he's not a bad guy, just got a bit of rage sometimes. It's too bad that he is a fireman and the other guy is a cop -- this stuff happens all the time in the city but you don't hear about it. How many people shot each other in similar arguments across the city this week?

I'm not defending what he did, it was wrong, but I don't know that he deserves a media excoriation; then again, at least the cop didn't shoot him.

*I know Sean ... he's not a bad guy, just got a bit of rage sometimes* — rage? sometimes? allegedly he followed his ex all the way down to VA cuz he's jealous. Can you say insecurity issues? This type of anger is a disease that has a cure, it's called we lock your ass up for 10-15 and then release you with electro-shock therapy.

Whether he beat a cop or not, he needs a serious punishment.

*stuff happens all the time in the city but you don't hear about it. How many people shot each other in similar arguments across the city this week?* — yeah it's called gangbangin' douche bags.

saw this story on the news last night,
that fireman beat the crap out of the cop and the girlfriend in this triangle is ONLY 21.
And, how did these people pass the pysch exam?
He returned to the cop, strangled him one more time and then for good measure, used the cop's head as a balloon and stomped on it a few times.

user-pic

both professions attract idiot meatheads with attitudes.

she met the firefighter when he was investigating a gas leak? and how did she meet the cop? when he was investigating her abusive boyfriend?

maybe she should try meeting dudes through friends and acquainences next time, instead of as a spin-off from dangerous and unfortunate circumstances (just a suggestion!).

firefighters are still hot though. Especially when they stomp the shit out of dudes for you

firefighters can do whatever they want. They're heroes, you know.

sure they can, but can they get it up when they need it?
limped dick a-holes, oops forgot, lot's of rescue me fans here.
For those firefighter groupies, I hope one beats the crap out of your grandmother. You heartless kunts.
I know you chicks, for some reason, dig extreme violence, so I wish it on your 90 yr old grandmother . You knight in shining armour will come and use your grandmother's head as a soccer ball on a penalty kick.

But in all seriousness - what's up with firemen? 'member the one who beat another fireman with a chair? And then a fake fireman in an suv ran over a cop earlier this week. Does anyone out there know what's going on with fireman? Are there not enough fires to fight so they have to fight cops?

What I meant was - who knows some fireman for real and can report on their lives and tell us if this is sort of normal or very off.

Me again ... look, the guy was in the Army for 3 years, did UN peacekeeping in Bosnia .. he's had hardships in his life and now his dream job is probably gone. He really isn't as terrible as the news is making him out is all I am saying, and I hope the officer has a full recovery.

I don't think violence is the answer to anything, especially not lover's quarrels, but if it wasn't FDNY v. NYPD it wouldn't be a story. We are from New York, this stuff happens here, don't move here and act like you understand -- and don't criticize the servicemen for being "meatheads" -- that isn't completely accurate (though surely some are).

I'm just glad they aren't calling it a "hate crime" because Sean is white and this guy's name was "Ahmed Kassam", that would really be tragic.

Up to the DA now with how he is charged -- I am afraid it will be aggravated assault which is bad ... and if there is permanent injury, this could be worse.

user-pic

"if there is permanent injury, this could be worse."

his fucking brain was bleeding you moron, what do you think? even if he's your friend, how can you defend him? this is an undefendable CRIME, he deserves severe punishment, whether he's FDNY or not, whether the other guy is a cop or not. Thats it. No discussion.

According to the news, Kessba is doing Ok, and I am thankful for that -- though what's up with his partner making threats? Anyone pissed about that?

If you could read "s", you would see I am not defending the crime, I am saying it is not clear what happened (he says self-defense) and that the media is unfairly portraying this as FDNY v. NYPD because you people from Ohio or where ever you come from think that is sexy.

I just want him to get a fair shake and clearly from the anger here, he isn't. In reality, (unlike on TV), cops and firemen don't have a real hatred, more like a friendly rivalry. The thing is that neighborhood guys who are similar in their attitudes join different departments and sometimes they throw down. It's like if one of you hipsters got in a fight with a raver or something and scratched each others eyes out -- the difference is these guys are men and they both got hurt.

"both got hurt"
for a guy who's hurt, he sure walks well from the news last night.
c'mon, we know your biased, let's just stop the argument now.
"throw down" are you a teenager? who talks like that unless they want to fight and crave confrontation.

user-pic

"because you people from Ohio or where ever you come from think that is sexy."

born, raised and living here for 31 years, douche bag. You're worried he won't get a fair shake? Thats undestandable, but don't try to diffuse the reality that what he did was brutally wrong with useless anecdotes about his military service etc etc. And just because other animals beat the shit out of each other on a daily basis all over the city, and guess what, the whole world, doesnt make it any less wrong or any less subject to punishment.

It's up to the DA and a jury now. I personally hope he gets locked up and the shit kicked out of him every day for the next 10 years. Get psychos like him off the street.

Yes, clearly I am both "a teenager" and a "douche bag" for having an opinion that is different than yours. God Bless America. For someone 31, you certainly could learn to express yourself better.

My point is let's not confuse the facts -- which is proved by all of you getting on the bandwagon and calling for his head. You don't know what happened, he has not been convicted. This isn't FDNY v. NYPD but its a big story because they can run with it.

This is the problem with the tabloids (and I mean that both in size and style); the Times didn't even run a story.

"Fyrefighter": would you prefer I said "resort to fisticuffs"? Are you really arguing semantics?

"s": sorry you got beat up in high school. The bullies are gone now. It's ok honey.

He really isn't as terrible as the news is making him

Are we talking about the same guy? Fuck him. Stalking and beating your ex-girfriend and then stomping on an unconscious man's head is pretty fucking terrible in my book.

listen, no one,
the more you post the more we find out about you.
The "sorry you got beat up" was your swan song.
every poster here is offended this guy is even in the FDNY and you're the only loser supporting him.
recall post #9, what is it with these violent firemen? The road rage incident which killed a cop, the throwing a chair over a simple incident.

Case in point: Dirk: "Stalking and beating your ex-girfriend"

Where did that come from? Who says he ever "beat" his girlfriend? Like domestic abuse, "stalking" is a crime and one he was never charged with.

Do you see how this spirals out of control so quickly people! Clearly, impressionable people like "Dirk -- who sadly are probably a majority -- don't even read the story just jump to conclusions.

(and yes, I will be on this board until it is taken down if you are wondering)

user-pic

haha, you are too precious. I've never been beat up in my life, never been in a fight, and never will, and thats something i'm proud of because I'm not a moronic animal like your buddy. Anyway, good luck finding anyone who has any sympathy for him. I venture to guess that most sane people agree that that what he did is disgusting and cowardly. Even I who have never been in a fight can attest to that; stomping on someone's face who's already down on the ground and unconscious is pretty low.

Look, whatever - the guy had issues, but saying stuff like "We are from New York, this stuff happens here, don't move here and act like you understand" falls flat - obviously most people in New York don't think beating people to a pulp for any reason is acceptable. I understand that this guy may be a friend, but man, he beat a dude - so try to understand how other people might be outraged when a guy who's supposed to be protecting us (granted from fire, but follow my logic) is beating other people charged with protecting us - it's certainly newsworthy because it's so fucked up and fucked up is what the papers sell.

The FDNY vs. PDNY thing is natural because two incidents have happened in the past week and there have been others in the past (some accidents of circumstance, like these, some more direct like when the protesting fireman punched an NYPD horse).

My question still stands - is there a problem in the FDNY that needs to be addressed to prevent further incidents like these, or is this just bad timing - I think enough gothamisticias know firefighters that we could get some answers on this.

Knock nock -- "s" made it personal; I shouldn't have been so pedantic in retaliating perhaps and apologize for stooping to his level (pacifist though he may be).

As for number #9 -- that guy was not actually in FDNY if you actually read the story, he lied about it. What kind of person do you think signs up to run into fires? I know lots of guys in FDNY including family members, most are nice guys and have families but aren't cowards by any measure. Sometimes men fight; sometimes those men are firemen. Usually not. Please don't judge thousands by a few incidents -- are all CEOs crooks after Enron? All priests molesters? All nurses murderers?

This is my point, media gives impressions and things spiral quickly out of control and now you have jumped on the bandwagon before the facts are even out. If I could, I would defend him personally but I cannot for professional reasons.

I also still don't see why no one takes issue with Kessba's partner threatening that Sean will "pay" and "wish he was never born" --- that is OK?

ps-- "s"-- for a guy who doesn't fight, you are pretty tough behind that keyboard. I hope in real life you either don't go around calling people names or are a heck of a runner. (go ahead and bash me now for that instead of focusing on the issue knock nock et al.)

Mamba: I hear what you are saying but how many out-of-towners join NYPD or FDNY? I would venture very few. In the boroughs, where I grew up, there is unfortunately a certain amount of violence. I am not saying it is right or just or appropriate, just not denying it and saying maybe growing up that way lends itself to a career of danger and risk taking. Do you want to fight fires or crime? I sure don't.

My point is that in any profession there will be some people who are more prone to violence -- in urban areas and in physical occupations especially. But it seems like an epidemic because of the way it is reported and the results of this are above.

99% of the firemen I know are the nicest guys in the world. It is unfortunate that because of the occupations of these men it has become a "look how violent these guys are" thing. That is inappropriate and that is what angers me. Again, I hope that Ahmad has a full and swift recovery.

ahhhh, you in essense what you're saying is you're
Keepin it Real for lack of a better term.
99 percent of accountants don't stomp on a guy's head when he's down, even after an IRS audit.
So, I'm guessing the extreme violence of the act don't bother you? It's all keepin it real.
No harm, no foul, all good, been there done that,
and, that's just the way it is.
props to tupac there.

The ALLEGED violence does bother me but there hasn't been a trial -- we don't have the facts so let's not crucify the guy.

For the record I do not support violence and actually work to prevent it in our society; I know I am an easy target because I have no support on this but I am only "keeping it real" by standing up for Sean.

For the THIRD time -- where is the outrage about the threats made by the partner? This guy is aggressive and violent, "keeping it real" and also has firearms. That bothers NO ONE? He didn't say "we will prosecute to the fullest" he said "pay" and "regret being born." Just threats so far, but threats nonetheless ...

Yeah - I said he was a fake FD - by that I meant he was a voulenteer who did more driving around with his siren on than fighting fires - not that voulenteers are fakes - I come from the hinterlands of NJ and we wouldn't survive without our vol. firefighters - but there are some poseurs on those forces. Yes, I knew the SUV ass was a fake.

Anyways, to sum, this has been a shitty week for the FDNY and the NYPD and "no one" - we get you don't want the departments ripped, but just conceed that your friend probably shouldn't be walking the streets unsupervised, let alone drawing a city paycheck.

no one, I kept on asking myself what the f are you talking about regarding the partner, then I read the daily news link.
The partner wrote that AFTER Kessba was beaten to a pulp. here it is from the DN,

Kessba's partner posted an emotional - and threatening - message on the cop's MySpace.com profile yesterday. "It hurt me to see you like that, and to see your father stressed out over his son, but I had to be there for my partner like he was for me," the message reads. "I said a prayer for you and your family."

"He will pay for this I promise you that as a partner and friend, he is going to wish he was never born," the partner continued, adding it's "hammer time."

And regarding the stalking, here's the quote.

When Kessba and Ray pulled up to her Ridgewood home at 4:30 a.m., Murray rushed to the cop's car, police said.

"What's going on?" demanded Murray, who had been waiting down the block, according to a neighbor. "Who the f--- do you think you are?"

Here's Kessba's injuries,

Kessba, who works out of Brooklyn's 62nd Precinct, was taken unconscious to Elmhurst Hospital Center. He suffered a brain hemorrhage, broken bones in his face and severe bruising to his head and neck. His eyes also were swollen shut. But he was conscious last night. "He's talking. He's all right," his brother, Mohammed, said.

Here's something else about the firefigher Sean Murray,

Murray, who was suspended by the FDNY, has a criminal record with convictions in New York for disorderly conduct and drunken driving and an arrest in Virginia for reckless speeding, authorities said. At least one bust came after he joined the FDNY two years ago, officials said.

As a close friend of Sean for nearly 20 years, I am appalled at this type of journalism. Who wrote this article? A 9th grader?

Off the bat you wrote that he "attacked" ... not "allegedly attacked" this police officer. To me, attacking someone implies that he threw the first punch. And if thsi turns out to be untrue, you may be fixing yourself for a lawsuit.

And what's with all these comments like "Yikes" and "That's just crazy". No self respecting journalist editorializes and story that they did not witness firsthand.

Point Jesse? I read the article. Of course he threatened his life after the fact -- why would he do so beforehand? He actually said "hammer time"... Talk about someone who shouldn't be on the street with a GUN (Mamba).

As for priors, disorderlies are pretty common misdemeanors that you can get for anything -- Critcal Mass anyone? Ditto reckless driving, that can be anything when you have NY plates in VA. A DWI is a bad thing but again, common and none of the above are an indication he should be raked over the coals like this.

Do you really think he can get a fair trial now?

Here's my point. And, I'm going to keep on posting it, just like you defending this thug.

Fiery rage at cop

Firefighter Sean Murray, said to be 'obsessed' with girlfriend Jennifer Ray, is led from 104th Precinct.
A jealous FDNY firefighter brutally beat and stomped a cop into unconsciousness early yesterday after lurking outside his ex-girlfriend's Queens home and finding her with the officer, police and witnesses said.

"He just kept on stomping and stomping on his face," said neighbor Noemi Schneider, 28. "The man on the ground looked dead." The vicious battle of the badges took place after off-duty cop Ahmad Kessba, 24, agreed to drive his friend Jennifer Ray home from a Long Island club.

Ray, 21, had argued with her "obsessed" ex-boyfriend, Firefighter Sean Murray, 28, at the club and was concerned he would try to hurt her, sources said. Her fears proved accurate.

When Kessba and Ray pulled up to her Ridgewood home at 4:30 a.m., Murray rushed to the cop's car, police said.

"What's going on?" demanded Murray, who had been waiting down the block, according to a neighbor. "Who the f--- do you think you are?"

Kessba identified himself as a cop and told Murray, who works out of Ladder 140 in Queens, to leave him alone, sources said. "You don't want to do this," said Kessba, who is not dating Ray.

Murray then demanded to see Kessba's police shield.

Murray, who was arraigned early this morning on charges of assaulting a cop and resisting arrest, claimed he was defending himself. "I got punched in the face," said Murray, of Hicksville, L.I., who sported a busted lip as he was led out of the 104th Precinct stationhouse chained to other suspects. "I have a right to hit back. Right?"

Murray, who was suspended by the FDNY, has a criminal record with convictions in New York for disorderly conduct and drunken driving and an arrest in Virginia for reckless speeding, authorities said. At least one bust came after he joined the FDNY two years ago, officials said.

Murray's attorney, Robert Gallo, said the cop butted in on an argument between Murray and Ray.

"The officer interjected himself into a dispute between the woman and the defending witness," Gallo told a Queens judge, who set bail at $250,000.

Ray's disgusted 15-year-old sister said Murray is "obsessed with my sister."

Ray and Murray met when he investigated a gas leak in her building. They recently broke up because Murray refused to let her go out and followed her when she went to Virginia on vacation, her family said.

"She was scared of him," her grandmother said.

On her MySpace page, Ray writes: "Firemen are hot, my advice is never to date one."

With Jimmy Vielkind, Kerry Burke, Austin Fenner,
Peter Kadushin and Richard Weir

Its quite clear that the police officer and his girlfriend were parading without a permit. The firefighter was doing what any
officer would do to discourage such illegal gatherings. After
all, the law must always be applied equally, just like the NYPD does.

Post a link next time n00b ... "thug" is just another word of proving I am right.

Thank you Mariana for the support. This kind of poor journalism - the title here and metatag is "Firefighter Attacks Cop Over Woman" is completely inappropriate.

I made it shorter this time,

So is "No One" Murray's mother or something? Get off the guy's junk. He's a psycho!

Bail: I am saying that "lurking" is a completely biased and inflammatory term that passes judgment and is inappropriate journalistically and legally, as is creating a story about FDNY v. NYPD because two men got in a fight.

user-pic

You wouldn't give 2 shits about journalistic integrity if you didn't know the guy. The bias is yours.

user-pic

I have a loud mouth, and I speak my mind, both in person and online. Anyway, thanks for the the diversion tactics, but as I said earlier, don't try to diffuse the reality of the situation. He did not allegedly stomp on the guy's face, it actually happened. Sorry for the psycho babble, but it sounds to me like you're embarassed that this guy is your friend. You're in denial buddy, he's a turd, despite how cool he may be while hangin with his boys. I don't need to know him in person or for a trial to be completed to know that. The sooner you admit this to yourself, the better off you'll be. As for him, he's done for. You're worried about him getting a fair shake? He had his chance, he blew it.

user-pic

also, re: #37, for the umpteenth time, the opinions being expressed here HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH FDNY VS NYPD. We are all disgusted by his actions, as a human being, and their effects on another human being's life. Your whole point is flawed fromt he start, get over it, its a straw man argument.

user-pic

i went to grammer school with sean. i also am a fellow firefighter. sean is a good hearted person and its proven through the job of saving lives he has chosen for himself. i was just out with him about a week ago with him at a bar...ive known him a long time and i never heard a mention of that he was crazy over his ex...the guy picks up lots of girls he doesnt need to stalk one. anyway i feel the media blows everthing out of proportion, and they know they do too. ive known sean for a very long time and i know for a fact that he wouldnt have fought with a person let alone a cop if he wasnt hit or provoked first...every one feels so sorry for this police officer and it is horriable for what happened, but since he was gotten the better of by sean, everone sayes now he is the bad guy now..how do you know what really happened?...im standing by my fellow brother because i know him personally, and if he should loose his job or do jail time because of people blowing the situation out of proportion is ridiclous...

user-pic

Bottom line: Man "A" stomps Man "B"'s head so hard that his head has broken bones and has a brain hemmorhage.

Even if "A" claims self defense, the superlative injuries of "B" make that claim extremely hard to believe.

user-pic

Rule of thumb in a street fight. Loser goes to the hospital, winner goes to jail. It doesnt matter who started it, it only matters who finished it.

Well look at it this way. At least there not fighting the public. It's a good way for the NYPD, and the FDNY to release all that pent up rage they have inside. Seriously the woman was the center of the arguement. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it . Ladies you need to really get to know the guys you get involved with. Understand them and there emotions and maybe things like this wouldn't have happened. I know all the women are now up inarms at what I'm saying but you all know it's true. This guys feelings were hurt and reacted in the only way he knew how to . VIOLENTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cop may have been trying to enhance this guys calm but think about it . If any you were hurt emotionally would you all be interested in what someone with a "Coolhead" was trying to tell you ? I know I wouldn't , It would probably enrage me further.

Maybe I should be more concerned with the problem of atrocious spelling rather than media bias ... that personally pains me ...

its simple, sean murray is a jackass....he puts a neagtive light on other firefighters and its unfortunate.....he is a perp that the dept should never have hired....his career is done....the cop that shot 31x's has a better chance of getting off than him

user-pic

Sean we still love the lefty power. King of the Deck!

everyone needs to get off seans back because he looks like a bad guys & he didnt stalk any one im a close friend she wanted him in virgina and kept it a secret from her parents because the gandmother didnt like him..noone knows this cops dirty laundry... but comeon what would you do GUYS if you saw your woman with another man & he knows you guys are together ... kick his ass!

Null...please come on!!!!!! He is a firefighter!!! He did not need to go off like that on that cop. I love the FDNY but this guy needs to have his head examined! I dont know the story with Virginia, but it seems to me though if he knew that the girls family didnt like him and she wanted him there, he wouldnt of come! I know I wouldnt of!!! USE YOUR BRAIN!
