Time Out New York came out with their Cheap Eats issue this week and they certainly took no shame in taunting New York Magazine. Time Out's cover is virtually identical to NY Mag's, with reversed colors, down to the box highlighting their star rating system, except that Time Out calls it's issue "The Real Cheap Eats." TONY gleefully notes that "absolutely everything" on their list is under $20, clearly taking a stab at NY Mag's choice to include "bargains" like Lupa.
Rivalries aside, we like TONY's choice to organize their list by subway hot spots, so that many of us will be able to find breakfast (up to $5), lunch (up to $10) or dinner (up to $17) near work. We also appreciate that they included Jackson Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, and Atlantic Avenue/Pacific Street -- recognizing that not everyone works in Manhattan. Did they miss a spot near your place of business? Let us know.

time out pays their employees the minimum and treats em all like dirt, unless of course you're in bed with em...
who cares, I prefer TONY to that shitty mag called New York
I'd still buy TONY over the pretentious New York anyday.
It's the TONY's employees' own fault for allowing themselves to be paid and treated like dirt, this ain't a communist country.
Dude = Archie Bunker
OK, but how boring were the choices? cinnamon rolls are $2.99 at whole foods? um, thanks. at least New York's picks were fairly interesting.
I picked up the issue yesterday, I am a resient of Astoria & once again there are no cheep eats listed in the mag.for Astoria. Does Time Out have something against Astoria? I don't get it?
Listing by subway station is a cute conceit, but it's really limiting. It seems like they just walked the blocks in each area until they came up with a few places that kinda sorta fit the bill: Pret a Freakin' Manger? Be serious.
There are lots of great, cheap places that kick the ass of any of the ones they list: they just aren't within range of the stops they chose.
Everything is cheap in Astoria - you just better like greek food.
I do like Greek food,but once in a while it's nice to see teh area you live in int eh mag.& they don't put Astoria in it that much.Not everything in the area is cheep.
I also felt like it was a verty random choosing of places to eat, and it seemed like they did little work to actually research and find real gems.
WHERE IS CHELSEA? I just started working here and was hoping this issue would be the answer to my eating woes, (for the record I work in the chelsea market and find it not the best choice for cheap yummy eats), but alas they skipped right over CHELSEA.
Mama's Food Shop. Ave B. Best Cheap Eats.
Time out dosen't research very well EVER..it's so true that you said that jk.They are always very picky & random about the places that they list normally & kind of snobish don't you think? Come on This isn't New York magazine!
