Last Night’s Action: The Locals Lose
-Phillies 3 Mets 0: For the first time since they went to Philadelphia, the Mets got a good pitching performance. Tom Glavine pitched well, surrendering only three runs over seven innings, but Jon Lieber was better. Lieber held the Mets to only five hits and did not allow a runner past second base as he pitched his first shutout in five years. New York will try and avoid being swept tomorrow afternoon.
-Orioles 3 Yankees 2: Cory Lidle didn’t have it starting the game and while he did just enough to keep it close, the 3-0 hole he dug was too deep for the Yankees to climb out of. New York had a great opportunity in the eighth inning, putting the first two runners on, but Robinson Cano struck out and Bernie Williams hit a bullet that was caught and turned into a double play. The loss and the Boston win cuts the Yankees’ lead to two games.
AL All-Stars 4 NL All-Stars 1: The New York-Penn League game featured the coaching staffs of the Baby Bombers and Cyclones running things for their respective leagues. Staten Island's Nicholas Peterson was the winner.
