City Officials Head to Chicago with Convention Dreams

Ooh, Mayor Bloomberg and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn are are headed to Chicago in order to present New York City as the spot for the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The NY Sun reports that Bloomberg and Quinn will have Lorraine Bracco as celebrity back-up at a cocktail reception at Millennium Park - and "Cosmopolitans, Manhattans, and 'Big Apple' Martinis" will be served. That's the way to a politician's heart - make 'em realize the bar scene in NYC will be better than in Denver or Minneapolis, the two other cities in contention. In June, the city tried to woo the Democrats - here's their itinerary.

But don't think the city is partisan - no, way, because officials are also chatting up Republicans this week. Can you imagine, another Republican Convention here?

Christine Quinn is one homely lady.

What a cuddly couple. Hmmm, odd that there are no realestate developers in this image.

I hope that we don't have another Republican convention here. The first one was bad enough and, besides, it's hard to think of a political organization more out of touch with the values of the urban, educated sections of the U.S. It's the sole reason that I didn't vote for Bloomberg in the first place (well, that and the fact that I simply couldn't bring myself to pull the lever for a Republican).

Hey Mark, enought with the "we're so superior" crap. BS like yours is a total turnoff to the rest of the country. Considering you need 51% of the vote to win an election, starting an election cycle by insulting 50% of the electorate doesn't seem the "smart" or "highly educated" thing to do. But then, Democrats don't believe in math.

I don't care who I turn off or insult -- I'm not a politician. The fact is that Republican values are out of line with New York's values.

So Mark would rather just pull a lever and not bother to think about issues - typical. For a self-proclaimed genius you don't know anything. And your generalizations about voters and parties are what are really out of line. I guess you like the idea that a polician that votes with his party 90% of the time should be thrown out. Good luck winning the White House in 08. You're playing right into the GOP's hands and those of us in the middle resent you.

"The fact is that Republican values are out of line with New York's values."

No you moron! The fact is we have a Republican Mayor and a Republican Governor! They maybe out of line with YOUR values but not voting for Bloomberg because he's a Republican says more about you nonexistant values than anything else.

I didn't vote for him.
I don't know if he's a "republican" mayor but if you say so.
And, good luck to him if he thinks the country does not vote on single issues like the right to bear arms.
I see moron is a popular word with you frothing at the mouth nut cases.

If there's ONE MORE CONVENTION in this city I'm going to get violent. The place was a fucking police state last time and I'm done with NYPD's finest minds herding us around like cattle when I'm just trying to get from A to B.

We had it last time. It was shit. Fuck off all politicians. Go to Ohio where only their votes make a difference in this pathetic excuse for a democracy.

Hey, the city still has yards and yards of orange netting waiting to be used.
Who's idea was it to bring the RNC here again?
