Has East Village restaurant LeSouk, infamous for being a haven of "fights, underage drinking, and legitimate noise comlplaints" over the years, closed? Reader Stacie who lives across from Le Souk (and loathes it for its chaos) heard from someone at the 9th Police Precinct that the restaurant lost its liquor license - and in fact, it was closed last night. Stacie continued to build a compelling case for why residents on Avenue B may be relieved: The State Liquor Authority website says Le Souk's liquor license is "inactive".
However, a woman at LeSouk said they were working on "preparations and repairs" and "hoped to be open tonight." Dunh dunh DUNH. Guess we'll see what happens on Avenue B come evening, eh? Or does anyone out there know more?

I love this space so much, it would be a shame for it to permanantly close.
Eine wirklich super Seite!
Heaven help us! What with the crackdown in Chelsea, and now this, who will possibly slake the thirsty masses from Strong Island and New Joisey?
The food there is overpriced and terrible. Not gonna miss this place.
Awww, sounds like smitty is poor.
Awww, sounds like michelle is smug.
Le Souk was AWFUL. I believe they were the main reason many of my neighbors were loathe to let E.U. move in nearby. I would love to see Le Souk gone and E.U. given a chance—it was AMAZING.
Please please please God I'll do anything if this is true please
Just a question: How many of you crackerjacks who are posting on this subject are actually from NYC? By "from" I mean, you know, BORN here...
Thank you much!
I am from NY, you know BORN here, and I still do not understand why transplants are not allowed to have an opinion. They pay the overpriced rent just like the rest of us and have to put up with the same quality of life laws we do. This is an attractive place to live, deal with it.
Jen, er, WTF?
Oh my god *sigh*
Sorry to have offended
Le Souk sucks whether you were born here or in Kalamazoo.
I hope this is true. Le Souk, LE SUKS.
I stopped at Carnevale across the street hoping it would be full of midgets and sooth sayers on my way to Babylon but unfortunately it was only full of a few hired models to eat there and dudes.
PS Jen F U, I'm Native American get off my soil.
Haha. HBO trumps all!
Bad news folks, it is open.
Yes, Andrew G., it's open, but it does not have a liquor license. No restaurant or club can survive here without one. People can still have dinner there, if they don't mind an alcohol-free meal.
I think the managers are now sending party people across the street to Carnevale, which is owned by the same people who own Le Souk. Carnevale was pretty rowdy last night -- I think it will be the new Le Souk.
Both places are terrible neighbors! Neither place cares about the people who live on the block. Plenty of clubs in the area manage to be good neighbors, by the way, so it's not an impossible task.
I live right by there, and it never bothered me. I think people who are bothered by noise should move to NJ.
HBO knows what he is talking about.
le souk is sort of a filth pit. I remember when I first moved to 3r and Ave A, it was a quiet moroccan dinner place with a nice garden...Somehoe it morphed into a sleazy club full of people from some bridge or tunnel that have no manners and dress the same. It started out as a very cool place rose to an apex and now it is one of the few places I won't miss when its gone. R.I.P Le souk. And to the Jen above, what does being 'BORN' here have to do with anything, the nicest, best, shiniest andcraziest people I've met in new york were born here, y'know, what you call 'legacy'. But then there are some of them seem that seem to have this uninviting and pretentious attitude that they'd could really stand to lose, y'know, kind of like you Jen.
Le Souk is a horrible place with abusive bouncers. They refuesed to let half our friends in on arbitrary accounts, then when a friend went to dispute a matter (they had given our reserved table to someone else during the middle of the night), he was thrown out then beaten bloody. These people deserve to be out of buisness.
