- Yankees 5, Orioles 4: The Yankees won their fifth game in a row Friday night with a 9th inning victory over the Orioles. Randy Johnson allowed four runs over his six inning outing, but didn't strike out a single batter for the second game in a row - only the second time that has happened in his career. The Yankees jumped to an early lead on a solo home run by Johnny Damon in the 1st and added to their lead with two runs in the 2nd. After the Orioles took the lead in the 5th, the Yankees tied it in the 7th. The score remained tied until Jorge Posada hit his 14th home run of the season. Before the game, the Yankees optioned designated Bubba Crosby for assignment and added another arm to the bullpen. The win keeps the Yankees a game ahead of the Red Sox for the AL East lead.
- Phillies 5, Mets 3: Chase Utley's 35-game hitting streak ended at Shea Stadium last night but the Phillies still won the game. Utley was hitless in five at bats including two stirkeouts. Orlando Hernandez pitched well, allowing three runs over six while striking out seven. One of the runs against Hernandez came in the 4th inning when he was called for a balk. He was called for another one later in the inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Hernandez managed to leg out a triple when he hit a ball off the left-field wall. He would later score on a Jose Reyes single. The Phillies scored the go-ahead run when David Dellucci homered against Darren Oliver.

You know Randy is really having a bad night when he allows six runs to a team that only winds up scoring four!
it's a shame to lose bubba crosby...he's a fan fave. bubbalicious
Crosby wasn't optioned to Columbus. He was designated for assignment. That means he has 10 days to clear waivers. If no other team claims him, then he'll go to Columbus (or be released).
Sure, he was a fan favorite. But, smitty, is it really a shame to lose an outfielder hitting .207/.258/.299 with 21 strike outs in 87 at bats? Plus, he was quite responsible for the Yanks' losing to the Angels in the playoffs last year. I'm not sad to see him go.
