Time to Cool Off

floating art in morningside parkLet's review, three straight days of a hundred degrees or more at both LaGuardia and Newark airports. Central Park got into the mid-90s but didn't set any records. Awesome Gothamist readers Maggie, Jenny and Carolita try to fry eggs on sidewalks, but it wasn't quite hot enough.

In part because of the heat Gothamist fled the city Wednesday for the cooler climes of Vermont. It was slightly cooler up here yesterday and this morning it is a rainy 69 degrees. Through the magic of the internets we see that it is still warm in New York this morning, but today will wind up much cooler than the past several days. No more record electricity usage! There may be a bit of rain during the day, but the cold front should drop down through the city this afternoon. Once the front passes the oppressive humidity will be a thing of the past, at least for weekend. The extended forecast calls for near-normal temperatures, with highs in the mid-80s for the next week.

I wouldn't exactly call a temperature of 85 degrees with a real-feel temp of 99 any kind of "cold front" or break...but whatever, that's just me.

the front was about 40 miles north of the city at noon. Give it another hour or two...
