August 6: Singapore Chili Crab Festival
Past years' reviews haven't been great, but we keep hoping they'll work out the kinks because chili crab is so damn good! Tiger Beer hosts this annual festival featuring chili crabs and other Southeast Asian cuisine, live music, traditional lion dancers, pedicab rides, massage therapists, and kickboxing demonstrations. Admission is free. 12 noon to 6 p.m., outside Water Street Restaurant & Lounge at 66 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY (between Dock St. and Main St.).

August 8: Waldemar and Nadia do Burgundy
Join Waldemar and Nadia as they continue to spread the cheese gospel -- this time paired with wines from the Burgundy Wine Company. Learn about the handcrafted artisan cheeses which span a range of cheese making styles and countries, then taste them along with wines that showcase the range of Burgundy. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase wines from Burgundy Wine Company during the event, and will receive 10% off the bottle for the featured wines. Tickets are $35 per person, and reservations are required. To purchase tickets, please call (212) 691-9092. 6:30pm-8:00pm, 143 West 26th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues.

August 8: Benefit for Lucky Dog Organic Farm
Richard Giles and Holley White, owners and farmers of Lucky Dog Organic Farm, lost their entire crop due to the recent flooding the Upper Delaware River Valley. Lucky Dog is one of the few local farms that is family-owned and operated and 100% organic. Applewood restaurant will be hosting a cocktail party benefit for Lucky Dog Farm. They will be featuring as much product from the farm as possible, but will be getting help from other local farms to help make the event a success. Both Richard and Holley will be attending the event, so everyone will have the opportunity to meet these wonderful folks and see, first-hand, where their donations will be going. 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., $100 per person (cash or check only, please) includes: beer, wine and passed hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction, featuring donations by local artists, authors and businesses (All beverages and food items are being donated by local farms and purveyors). Call 718.768.2044 for reservations. 501 11th Street, Brooklyn. If you cannot attend, please send donations to: Lucky Dog Farm, c/o applewood, 501 11th Street, Brooklyn NY 11215.

i'm pretty sure that it's chili AND crab. not together. two different infinitely long lines in the heat. to eat hot food. yep, i'll pass.

Benefits are great things, but are your trying to tell me that a commercial farm didn't have any crop insurance?? That would be incredibly stupid....
