A Ticket Stub for those Lovable 1991 Mets

2006_08_sticketstub.jpgTime to take a 15 year trip back in time. Jesse Chan-Norris was cleaning his apartment when he found a ticket stub for a game between the Mets and the Cardinals from September 22, 1991. The Mets lost the game 2-1 in front of a crowd of 21,113. The loss brought their record to 72-77. The craziest thing about the ticket is the price - $14! A similar ticket now would cost more four times the amount.

Mets starters for the game that day included: Howard Johnson, Mackey Sasser, Gregg Jefferies, Kevin Elster, and Todd Hundley. The starting pitcher for the Mets was Anthony Young - the same Anthony Young who would later go on to lose 27 consecutive games with the Mets. The 1991 Mets finished the season 77-84 and 5th in the NL East. The team's payroll was a paltry $32,590,002.

The 2006 version of the Mets play the Cardinals at Shea from August 22nd-24th in a possible playoff matchup.

  • Nice try peckerwood! Where's your Dirty Sanchez mea culpa?

And why do you have to remind us of the dark years?

I'm going to scan in my 1984 Shea Stadium banner - you know one of those cheap triangles on a stick you buy. Will you post that?

You ARE a Yankees fan, right?

A ticket stub from the 1991 season? Why is this news? Tien, have you apologized for your callous post on Duaner yet?

Remember Mackey Sasser's throwing problems? He had no troubles throwing out runners stealing second. But he couldn't get the ball back to the pitcher for the life of him. He double/tripled clutched all the time and sometimes completely missed the pitcher. it was embarrassing. I remember seeing a runner once steal second base because poor Mackey couldn't get the ball back to the pitcher in time. Crazy... He was the original Blauch-head.
