Steamy Weather for FDNY Hunks

If there was ever a reason to leave the cocoon of air-conditioning at work, it might be this: The FDNY's official 2007 Calendar of Heroes (the one we mentioned in June was the non-official one) is on sale today and the firefighters will be near Herald Square signing the calendars. The Daily News says that calendar's cover boy is Mark DeRosa from Ladder 18 on Pitt Street: He's 22, single, from Staten Island and "auditioned half as a joke and half-seriously, but I'm proud to be part of it."

The firefighters will be at Greeley Square, with in that area between Broadway and Sixth Avenues between 32nd and 33rd Street until 3:30PM. Tag those photos on Flickr with "gothamist" when you cool down.

I think I smell smoke in my apartment. How soon can you send some of those firefighter hunks over here?

Seriously though, I live a couple blocks from my local firehouse and that fire truck has been constantly out of the firehouse on calls. I don't know how those firefighters can stand all that heavy gear they wear, especially in this almost 100F degree weather.
